No profanity here guys!
A Personal-Public Blog (but not Public Domain.).
TV SHOWS I watched or WATCH ! Wow. Did I really watch that much TV?? LOL.
VERSION: 8/18/2008. *1*
MY MAIN MOVIES AND SHOWS BLOG: Who wants to DO something, like see SHOWS or MOVIES, or catch the SIGHTS?.
MORE RECENTLY. WHAT I HAVE WATCHED IN THE PAST YEAR OR TWO: My personal ratings for these are below, spread around in the main lists.
I haven't had or taken out much time lately to watch anything every week; but here are some that I have watched on occasion in the past year or so.
Info and ratings about these are in the main list below.
Semi-regularly: Numbers / NUMB3RS. (Friday nights. No, I am not a Math whiz, LOL.)
Momentarily: Beijing Summer Olympics, especially Volleyball which I used to play competitively.
Occasionally: Grey's Anatomy (I was even a regular, till maybe 2007-8.) Stargate: Atlantis Stargate: SG-1 Star Trek Voyager. (On DVD.) (Beginning Season 5.) Ugly Betty (I was even a regular, till 2007. LOL.) Various older TV shows (not listed).
Previously, or previous season(s) -- Regularly or Semi-regularly: Eli Stone. (This was FUN. I hope they bring it back! ) Mission Impossible. (Now Simon and Simon comes on in its spot.) UFO Hunters UFO Files (or other shows that would be on after UFO Hunters).
Occasionally throughout the year (A-Z): - Various older TV shows (not listed). Big Shots (Rarely now, or not at all. Too--chauvinistic, I guess, for my tastes. Too macho or whatever.) Get Smart House Journeyman Life Lost NCIS (when a friend is watching ) Shark The Unit (when a friend was watching ) Xena: Warrior Princess. (On DVD, but NOT in several months.) (Why not? LOL. "Her courage will change the world". Something ought to.) Various older TV shows (not listed) Various others.
INTRO:
Now don't judge me from what is on this season. LOL.
And don't think I am just a nerd because I can SOMETIMES like Sci-Fi, or because my favorite TV show growing up was Star Trek, The Original Series, LOL (when I was maybe about in junior high ).
How many other TV shows inspired 10 full-length feature films!? LOL.*
But I liked--and disliked, lol--so MANY TV shows growing up!
Below are many of them.
About my ratings here:
My Ratings throughout, of TV shows, are REALLY rough approximations, as episodes could vary a lot. Also, my memory of certain TV shows from a long time ago is sometimes pretty dim. These ratings are DIFFERENT from my MOVIE ratings. Overall, my ratings of movies are generally somewhat higher than for TV shows. (More time typically goes into film production.)
These ratings here basically may go from 1 to 5 sharps! (#-#####.), and they basically represent how much I LIKED the show, or how likely I am to watch it again, NOT how well done it was.
Keep in mind that SOME of My Ratings are based on how I FELT about a show when I was a child or teen. (Some shows here, I might not have even seen since then.)
N.B. NOTE: My Ratings do not imply appropriateness or lack of it for Christians, children, or anyone else.
Note: TV shows ARE listed A-Z but are split into various sections.
Watched or watch more frequently: Less-frequently watched shows are listed in their own section. Though I've watched quite a few, many Christian shows may or may not be listed.
I probably don't list all, but I list a bunch of TV shows that I watched, or watch, either occasionally or often. In the vast majority of cases, I did NOT watch all the episodes of a series. Well, I might have, LOL, but I wouldn't know! Where I know I HAVE seen them all, I have tried to mention it.
24 ###-## A spy/federal-agent/police show. Season 1. ###-##.5 Saw all. Season 2. ##.5-## Saw all. It got more violent. Ethical boundaries get pushed further and further as the Seasons progress. Season 3. ##.5-## Saw all. Season 4. ##.5-## Saw all. Jack Bauer pushes the morals boundary by seeing a Separated woman. Season 5. Not yet rated. Season 6. Not yet rated. Adam 12 ## A police show. It usually had two guys going out on calls. Very tame. Somewhat lame. The Addams Family ## Comedy. Dumb, but I kind of liked it. ALIAS I have seen the entire series, on DVD. ####-##.5 Action/Adventure. Spy/Mystery. This is similar, I have heard, to the show La Femme Nikita and to the movie "Point of No Return". Well, it has a woman playing the main role! Season 1 #### Season 2 ###.5? Season 3 ##.5? Season 4 ##.5 Season 5 ##.5 All in the Family ### Comedy. Drama. Satire. Social Commentary. A bit before my time, humor-wise, this was a comedy that was also a social commentary on the time. It might have done more than most anything else to point out the nation's bigotry, and its ignorant, judgmental behavior; maybe more than any show of its time, or that I have seen since (by 2007 ). The Beverly Hillbillies ##.5-## Comedy. Occasional drama. Dumb, but occasionally smart and funny, maybe brilliant even. It explored some of the conflict between country and city living and viewpoints and ways of doing things. It occasionally explored some of the important things of life, and whether all that money is really all that important. Bewitched ##.5-#.5 Comedy/Supernatural. Sorry! Yes, it's about a female witch, a man who marries her, and the shenanigans that she and her relatives and witch friends get into. The Brady Bunch ##.5 Family drama and comedy. I actually liked this some of the time. Charlie's Angels ##.5 Action/Adventure. Spy/Mystery. Cool. But corny at times. Columbo ###-## Mystery. Detective. Well, if you don't mind knowing whodunnit almost the whole way through, this was pretty intriguing. Columbo liked to practically harass his suspects until he could get them to give up some detail that gave them away. Pretty smart, really! Daybreak ###.5-##.5 The one about time travel. Guy keeps finding himself in another time period, trying to figure out why, and what to do. Some woman also keeps showing up, apparently also being moved around in time, but, she seems to know more about what's going on, and maybe why, and give him some clues. I think I got the sense that they this experience was being forced upon them, or, upon him anyway. I really liked this show, but the series got cut short. There might be another series with a similar name that I know nothing about. Eli Stone ###.5-##.5 Loved this show. New in 2008. An attorney has visions of the past and future which direct him to help others, even to defend them pro bono. Will it be back in 2009 (or late 200 ? I hope so! Get Smart ##.5-#.5 Action/Adventure. Spy/Mystery. Comedy. The dumbest likeable one around. I kept asking myself why it wasn't on more often, and why I still haven't seen it on DVD. (It might be out. Gotta look.) Great theme music. Finally found on TV again in mid-2008. Gilligan's Island ##-##.5 Action/Adventure. Comedy. I said Get Smart was the dumbest likeable one around. I could be wrong. Green Acres ##-#.5 Comedy. Dumb. Like The Beverly Hillbillies, it explored some of the conflict between country and city living and viewpoints and ways of doing things. But instead of the country coming to the city, and looking out of place, this was a city guy wanting to head to the country, and the strange (exaggerated ) interactions that brought. The wife wanted the city life though, and that was a constant struggle--and watcher irritation. I watched this more often than I wanted to. LOL. Grey's Anatomy ###-## Medical drama and comedy. Except for the immoral stuff, I like a lot of it. Happy Days ###.5 Comedy. Drama. Family. Most of the time, I liked this a lot. Great theme music. Hogan's Heroes ## (War-time) Comedy. Yeah, dumb. I Dream of Jeannie ###-#.5 Comedy. Supernatural. Jeannie is a genie with powers. It's similar to Bewitched, except for the cornball witch stuff. J.P. Patches ## Children's entertainment. Comedy. Local children's morning-show. Pretty dumb at times. I loved that talking clock! The Late Night Movie or whatever it was called. Various movies. The # ratings varied. Various movies. Various movies. Late Night with Conan O'Brien #.5-##.5 Comedy. Talk show. Variety show. He's okay humor-wise, but lies all the time for humor sake, and can be pretty perverse at times. The Late Show, with David Letterman ##-### Comedy. Talk show. Variety show. As he has gotten nicer, the show has gotten better. One of the less perverse comedian-talk-show hosts, at least on screen. But still too much perversity. The Late Late Show, with Craig Ferguson ##-### Comedy. Talk show. Variety show. I have sometimes really liked this show. His antics can get a big tiring though. Leave it to Beaver ##.5-## Family drama and comedy. I actually liked this some of the time. M.A.S.H. ###.5-## (War-time) Drama-Comedy. Though I was young, I liked it, and actually "got" some of the irony and sarcasm. It still causes me to get into trouble today! lol. McCloud ## Detective. Countryish. So-so. I didn't like the captain's attitude. Mission Impossible ###-## Spy. Action/Adventure. I kind of liked this show. A bit slow much of the time. Could have used better casting. Great theme music. Mr. Rogers ## Children's edutainment. Young-children's show. The Munsters #.5 Comedy. Dumb. My Favorite Martian ## Comedy. Kinda dumb. My Three Sons ## Family. Drama. Comedy. Kinda dumb. Don't recall much, but I kind of liked Ed McMurray. Nightmare Theatre Various movies. The # ratings varied. Various movies. Various movies. I think it was spelled Theatre and not Theater. Numbers / NUMB3RS ###.5-## Detective. Drama. Police. Police Drama. I LIKE this show, or mostly liked it until a recent episode showed that one of the main math guys is skeptical about the supernatural. I don't care for certain characters though. Rather than focusing on forensics, as CSI and others do, it focuses on how numbers experts look for clues in the patterns that often follow a crime scene and criminal behavior. They do a pretty decent job of not going too far into the "geek" zone when it comes to numbers analysis, but it pushes it sometimes. LOL. Though some of the number stuff goes way too fast for ME to catch, it's still usually somewhat understandable. And I like that at least SOME of those who are into numbers aren't portrayed as freaks, though some on the show are definitely portrayed as geeks. The Outer Limits ## Sci-fi. Supernatural. I preferred the show the Twilight Zone. Perry Mason ##.5 Court. Detective. If it hadn't been so predictable at time, this could have been a much better show. How DOES Mr. Mason get into their heads SO WELL that he can get them to confess ON THE STAND. (Hey, didn't it work in the movie "A Few Good Men"? lol.) Star Trek Or, Star Trek, The Original Series (TOS). ###.5-##.5 Seen all on DVD. Action/Adventure. Sci-fi. Drama. At this writing, they are remastering and then rereleasing episodes of TOS. See my Blog Post My favorite TV show for a bit more about Star Trek. Growing up, this was my favorite TV show of the dozens I used to watch for many hours of the day. I loved most of the characters, except "Bones" (or almost any of the other doctors on any of the Star Treks I have seen, not that I dislike real doctors!). Humor is at times a bit campy, and the special effects sometime corny by today's standards, but folks, this was over a DECADE before Battlestar Galactica or Star Wars! It was pretty decent for the early 1960s, and many of the episodes have things of LIFE to learn about. Once you're into the characters, you're into Star Trek TOS. Was it science? Well, that's debatable. An article I read at the NASA Web site examined the "science" of Star Trek, point by point, and says that some was, yes, and some maybe not. He also said that the writer--and many others at NASA, including engineers--were fans of the various Star Trek series. But the thing to remember is that this show is set HUNDREDS of years in the future. So WHO KNOWS? LOL. Star Trek. Voyager. (on TV.) ###-## Action/Adventure. Sci-fi. Drama. Seen Seasons 1-4, unless I missed a few in 4. Various episodes of misc. seasons. My comments about this are similar to Star Trek, The Next Generation. Why can't they go back to the formula, and the type of casting they did for the main characters in TOS?? And just how real could this be in the future anyway? Guess people will see, if Earth ever gets that far. Three's Company ##-#.5 Comedy. Drama. Okay comedy, except for all the lying. Dumb at times though, even really dumb. The Time Tunnel ##.5?-##? Action/Adventure. Sci-fi. I recall thinking Why isn't this on more often? I don't recall thinking it was very good, but I liked the concept a lot. The Tonight Show, with Jay Leno Variety show. ##.5-# Comedy. Talk show. Variety show. Considering this guy seems like a big kid, he seems to have pretty perverse humor at times. And will you stop explaining your jokes already? The Tonight Show, with Johnny Carson Variety show. ###-## Comedy. Talk show. Variety show. Funny. And appeared to be somewhat conservative, though he could definitely be "subversive" at times. Twilight Zone Original. ### Sci-fi. Mystery. Action/Adventure. Supernatural. Drama. Yeah baby! (Just being silly.) UFO Hunters ###-## Science. Documentary. Sometimes intriguing, sometimes boring, sometimes dumb. Hour-long show exploring whether there really is evidence for flying saucers. Ugly Betty ###.5-## Drama. Comedy. I liked the series premiere. I hoped they would keep with and handle well the idea of showing respect to those who might not be so fashionable or "good looking". But it expanded a lot into the drama between the various characters. I am wondering, though, if this show is doing more harm than good, as "nerds" are still nerdy, even though the show gives them some dimension. In 2007, it was getting a little dumber toward the end. And the start of 2008 pretty much stopped me from watching regularly. Wild Wild West ###-## Spy. Action/Adventure. Growing up, I was really excited when this would come on, but it was often disappointing. It had so much potential. It was kind of like a Mission Impossible set back in the 1800s or early 1900s (whenever). The Wonderful World of Disney ###-## Various shows. As a boy, I hoped it wouldn't be a documentary! but that's about all I recall, except for a lot of the storied being corny to me as a boy. Xena, Warrior Princess ###-#.5 Action/Adventure. Drama. Was okay sometimes, when the dumb guy Jowster or whatever wasn't in it. I liked Xena, and at times I loved her sidekick, Gabrielle, though at some point she got pretty creepy, though I didn't follow this series to its end.
Cartoons: I'll probably get in trouble for even commenting on these "beloved" attempts at humor, but Oh well. Cartoons are apparently now SO IMPORTANT to me, that at this writing, I can barely remember any of their names! LOL. (Not that a lack of remembering necessarily means that, psychologically or philosophically speaking. Really.) No ratings.
Bugs Bunny Sometimes funny? The Flintstones Sometimes meaningful, but not usually funny. The Jetsons I dunno; don't recall. Mighty Mouse Don't recall. Road Runner Mindless, constant cat-and-mouse theme. As one person wrote, If Wile-e Coyote had all that money to buy all the stuff to try to catch the Road Runner, why didn't he just go out an BUY himself dinner? Rocky and Bullwinkle Dumb. I rarely if ever liked it. Scooby Doo! Sometimes pretty dumb. I usually liked watching it, though it usually left me feeling somewhat disappointed. Speed Racer I only remember kind of liking it. Various others Yep yep.
Watched or watch less frequently: Though I've watched quite a few, many Christian shows may or may not be listed. This list is not complete at all, as I watched other shows only a few times here and there, many of which are not listed. Sometimes I would watch shows in spurts. Many shows, especially those not listed, I'd see when visiting with someone who was watching them. Do I even list the NEWS anywhere? LOL. It's not always easy to categorize what I watched frequently or not. Some shows I watched when much younger, then not after. And some I watched infrequently when younger but much more later on.
Access Hollywood #.5-##.5 Celebrity News Show. And why should we care so much about the personal lives of THESE strangers? LOL. America's Funniest Home Videos ##-##.5 Award Show. Comedy. Game Show, sort of. Usually corny. That is, the host's comments were anyway. American Hero ?? Last American Hero?? ##? GENRE? ? I THINK this is what I wrote down. LOL. Nothing is coming to mind. American Idol ##.5-#.5 Music show/competition. Like "Grease: You're the one that I want" TV show, it can be torturous to watch, especially as one who composes and sings! LOL. The Andy Griffith Show. Mayberry R.F.D. (Mayberry RFD ) #.5-##.5 Comedy. Drama. Family. I saw this more than I should have. Kinda dumb, even for a young boy like me. Arsenio Hall ##.5 Variety show. I kind of liked it, slightly femme-sounding host and all. The A-Team ##? Detective. Drama. Police. Police Drama. I don't remember it well. Kind dumb though, if I recall. The Avengers ###-## Action/Adventure. Mystery. Spy. I loved this show when it had the character Emma Peel on it. (I bought the Emma Peel episodes on DVD, but haven't seen them all as of 5/2008.) Baretta ## Not too bad. Batman #.5 Action/Adventure. Sci-fi. Dumb. Too dumb. Check out the MOVIES, though. I liked "Batman Begins" a lot. Battlestar Galactica (original unfinished series) ## overall; ##.5-#.5 Sci-fi. This is NOT the NEW Battlestar Galactica which I have yet to see, and which has gotten really decent ratings, or so I heard. Theme: Did we on Earth come from, or are we related to others somewhere in the galaxy? They seem to think so. And as they run into trouble in their area of the galaxy, they head away from the trouble, and toward, what may be (they're not sure), a myth about a planet -- called Earth. I watched the entire series on DVD in 2006. I got very little out of it. Some were pretty decent; others nearly awful. If you can handle the very first episode, you can probably tolerate the rest. It gets to its best pacing toward the end of the series, which lasted only one year. Saw only occasionally when it aired on TV. Saw ALL this on DVD. The Benny Hill Show ##? Comedy. Variety show. I thought it was mostly dumb. Rife with sexuality skits. Not my style. Big Shots ##-##.5 Comedy. Drama. Male chauvinists abound. Or maybe boys are just being boys--instead of men. Bonanza ## Drama. Country. I was too young to really appreciate this. The Carol Burnett Show ##.5-##? Comedy. Variety show. Don't recall much. Chips ##? Detective. Drama. Police. Police Drama. I don't really remember it. The Cosby Show. ###.5-## Comedy. Drama. Family. A pretty decent show. The Courtship of Eddie's Father ## Drama. As a boy, I thought this was pretty dull. Crocodile Hunter ##? Adventure?? Documentary? LOL. Saw a few. I don't really recall. Dallas ##? Drama. Evening Soap Opera. It was so popular, but I hardly ever watched it. "Who shot J.R.?" Dancing With the Stars ##.5 Award Show. Dance. Variety show. Dancers compete, as "stars" are typically matched up with professional dancer and dance trainers. Dark Angel ##.5 Drama? I kind of liked it, though I rarely saw it. Jessica Alba starred. Seattle was supposedly a setting. Well, they liked to show the Space Needle anyway. Dark Shadows ## Drama-Soap. Don't recall. Was the main character a vampire?? lol. The Dating Game ## Dating. Drama. Romance. Romantic comedy. I kind of liked it, from time to time. Donahue ###.5-## Talk show. I usually liked it, though there were concerns about it being somewhat worldly in it varying wisdoms. Like most talk shows, TV and otherwise, I found that a topic was often not gone into deeply enough. The Dukes of Hazzard (Dukes of Hazard ) ##-##.5 Drama? Can you believe that this show was once #1? The Electric Company ## Education. Children's. Young-children's show. Entertainment Tonight (ET) #.5-##.5 Celebrity News Show. And why should we care so much about the personal lives of THESE strangers? LOL. ET. SEE Entertainment Tonight (ET) SEE Entertainment Tonight listing. ER ##-##.5 Doctor Drama. Drama. I used to watch it quite a bit, but then stopped for no particular reason. ER was then replaced in my watching by Grey's Anatomy. Been so long since I've seen it, I don't even know who's on it. LOL. Extra #.5-##.5 Celebrity News Show. And why should we care so much about the personal lives of THESE strangers? LOL. A Family Affair ## Drama. Family. As a boy, I thought this was pretty dull. Hi Buffy! LOL. Family Ties ### Family drama and comedy. Some of the time, I liked this. The FBI ## Detective. Drama. Too serious, though it had potential. (SEE "Alias" elsewhere.) Flipper ## Drama. Corny, even for a young boy like me. Frasier ## Drama. Comedy. No comment. Saw rarely. Friends ##.5 Comedy. Drama. I liked watching it. George Lopez #.5-##.5 Comedy. Drama. A bit dumb at times, and obsessive. Geraldo ##? Talk show? Rarely saw it. Gomer Pyle #.5-## Comedy. Drama. I saw this more than I should have. LOL! Grease: You're the one that I want ##.5-#.5 Music show/Competition. Like American Idol, can be torturous to watch, especially as one who composes and sings! LOL. Gunsmoke ## Drama. Country. I was too young to really appreciate this. Hawaii Five 0 (5-0 ) ##-##.5 Detective. Drama. Police. Police Drama. Good theme music! LOL. Hee Haw ##? Comedy. Variety show. I don't recall if this was funny. I remember it being at times dumb. It didn't contribute to a city boy's love of things country, I can tell you that. Here Come the Brides ## I was too young to really appreciate this, but some of those women were cute, and some seemed (sickeningly) sweet! Heroes ##-##.5 Sci-Fi. Sci-Fi Drama. If I knew what it was about, I might watch it more. Highlander ## Quite the bizarre theme. And WHY exactly were some of them always trying to kill the others?? while some preferred to live in peace? I know they got a lightning-like jolt, but what was the real significance? Who cares? Get your zapping jollies elsewise. I didn't get it. House ###-## Comedy. Doctor. Drama. Not bad. The Hulk ## Kind of depressing. Ironside ## I really liked Perry Mason. I really did not like Ironside. (He was more friendly and humorous and kind in P.M.) I Spy ?? I seem to remember a family member liking this. I don't really recall it much. But I might like to see a few episodes to see if I like it. It Takes a Thief ##.5-## Similar to the movie To Catch a Thief. Here, a thief works for a secret group in the government (the SIA ), and goes on missions that they assign him. Similar to Mission Impossible, but with hardly any cool gadgets, and with a focus on a thief's "skills". Jacques Cousteau's show ## Sometimes liked it a bunch. Sometimes. Jeopardy ###-## Game show. Overly brainy and obscure most of the time. Focuses on remembering details, not mental-agility skills. Special shows are usually more entertaining, and easier to get! LOL. The Jerry Springer Show #-## Talk show. I hated this show, and rarely watched it. The permitting of abusive speech and violent behavior was disgusting. Trashy TV. Jimmy Kimmel Live ##-##.5 Comedy. Talk show. Variety show. He's okay. Nice to his guests. Journeyman ##.5 Sci-Fi. Time travel. Only seen rarely, but I pretty much liked it when I did. Kojak ## Detective? Not a big fan. The guy was too cocky. La Femme Nikita ##-##.5 Action/Adventure. Drama. While I liked Alias, and saw all of its episodes before seeing any of these British shows, and hoped I'd like this too, I quickly tired of the dragging scenes, and the are-they-good-guys-or-bad-guys theme. About the Fall of 2007, I started to watch them on DVD, but gave up (in part due to having other shows to watch, and things to do ). Some think this is better than Alias. No problem! LOL. There is also at least one movie by this name, and another, very similar, called Point of No Return. Lassie ## Drama. Action/Adventure. Corny, even for a young boy like me. The whining-dog thing really got to me! lol. The Lawrence Welk Show ##-##.5 Variety Show. Music and dance. When a parent had it on. Maybe I was too young to really appreciate this. Life ####-##.5 Comedy. Detective. Drama. Police. I like it. The main male character kind of reminds me of me. Only he's smarter, and I am not so quirky. LOL. Well, maybe. Little House on the Prairie ##.5-## Drama. Yes, I actually liked it sometimes. And sometimes found it dull. Lost ###-## Action/Adventure. Drama. What I have seen is not bad! lol. In 2006, I watched it a number of times. In 2007, I watched in the first part of 2007. I started in 2008, but, just have other things to do. Love American Style ##? Dating show. Drama. Romance. Romantic comedy. I don't recall. End of theme song: "Love American Style, that's me and you". Macmillan and Wife ## Detective? So-so. Make a Wish ##?-###? I don't recall Make a Wish being the title of the show, but when I Googled words in the theme, IMDB had those words associated with a show by this name. Part of the Chorus of the Theme, as I remember it: "If you want it, you can get it, but to get it, you've got to want it. Anything you want to try, just let go, fly high!" Marcus Welby, M.D. ## Medical drama. Don't recall. Too young. But vaguely recall thinking it was mostly dull. The Mary Tyler Moore Show ## Comedy. Variety show. I don't recall if this was funny. I remember it being at times dumb. It didn't contribute to a city boy's love of things country, I can tell you that. Matlock ## Detective. Court. Not a big fan. The Merv Griffin Show ? Talk Show? Variety Show? Before my time. Mister Ed ## Comedy. Corny, even for a young boy like me. But I actually thought the talking-horse thing was cool! LOL. Mork & Mindy / Mork and Mindy 1978-1982 ##.5-#.5 Comedy. Sitcom. Goofy alien-on-Earth story. Probably made Robin Williams (Mork) famous. Pam Dawber was Mindy. As a boy or teen, I sometimes really liked it, sometimes didn't. Mork from Ork. Nanu-Nanu! (Or maybe Nanoo-Nanoo!.) The Morton Downy Show (or was it called The Morton Downy Jr. Show? ) #-##.5 Talk show. Sometimes I hated this show, and sometimes I liked it because they would talk about things other shows wouldn't. I rarely watched it. Some shows ended up being abusive in speech and even violent, which was disgusting. The host actually smoked on the show, when almost all other shows didn't. Music CHANNELS The # ratings varied. Various, music-related shows and videos. MTV, VH1, and Country channels, etc.? How often I watched or watch these varied or varies a lot. Considering I compose music and write songs, you would THINK that I would watch this (or listen to the radio) a lot. But I don't. I often enjoy the silence (or occasional loud music, LOL ). It keeps the mind clear for composing and thinking and listening or praying. On occasion, I do watch videos, to see what is being done in video production. For me, listening to music was about enjoying the music. Blabbing about GROUPS hasn't done much for me. I've delved into the Beatles and Elvis a bit, but that's enough! I've never really had any music idols, though I did have favorite groups. Band members' details seldom interested me much. (Movies about such are a different matter.) And I don't really care much about "technical" skill. If I don't like the music, how well it was played really isn't that relevant to me, but that's me. Lyrics are another matter entirely. (Sometimes they affect my enjoyment of music, sometimes not so much. It depends. And-- For 15 years I stopped listening to secular music, on principle, mostly. Now, I hate having to put out of my head evil lyrics. And "bad" or uninteresting music? I just don't LIKE to listen to it! On radio, media, live, or on TV. When you listen to or watch these, you typically get what they feed to you. I like to have more control over what comes at my heart and mind. Music SHOWS The # ratings varied. Various, music-related shows. Considering I compose music, you would have THUNK that I would have been more into music shows. Maybe I didn't really like a lot of the music that was played on TV series then, or thought the show was corny. I do remember a few that I occasionally would watch: American Bandstand. Captain and Tennille (spelling? ). Lawrence Welk, listed separately. The Osmonds. Sonny and Cher. Is that IT?? Soul Train. The Tonight Show, listed separately. And some others that don't come to mind at the moment. WHERE are the music shows today?? All on cable? NCIS ##?-##.5? (Saw when a friend was watching.) Not bad. Don't remember much. Saw when a friend was watching. Night Rider ## Action/Adventure. Detective. Not bad, when it wasn't corny. Northern Exposure ## Drama. Sort of a Comedy, maybe. Quirky small-town dramas, set in the far North (Alaska? ). A bit odd at times. Sometimes I kind of liked it. Oprah ###.5-## Talk show. Personal. Societal. I usually like it, though there are concerns about it being somewhat worldly in its varying wisdoms. Like most talk shows, TV and otherwise, I found that a topic was often not gone into deeply enough. The Partridge Family Family drama. Corny, even for a young boy like me. Phil Donahue ##-##.5 Talk show. Similar to Oprah, sort of. Politically Incorrect #.5-##.5 Talk show. Debate show. Sometimes I disliked this show, and sometimes I liked it because they would talk about things other shows wouldn't. Why can't we have a show that discusses things that others won't but hosted by someone somewhat conservative and Christian. Oh, we do, on TBN, The 700 Club, and the Angel Network (or whatever it's called ). The Prisoner #.5 Action/Adventure. Spy. Dull. I HATED watching this. And it gave me the creeps, as well as it should have. (I never "got" what it was all about until as an adult I finally watched some of the original episodes on DVD.) The Red Skelton Show ? ? Talk Show? Variety Show? Before my time. Rowen's and Martin's Laugh-off, or something like that. Comedy. Variety show. I don't recall if this was funny. I remember it being at times dumb. Sanford? and Sons/Son? ##? Comedy. Family. Drama? I don't really recall much. Seattle Stars Award Show. Variety show. Singers compete locally. Seinfeld ##.5-## Comedy. Drama. Okay comedy. Most of the time, more humorous than funny. Sesame Street ##.5-## Education. Children's. Young-children's show. Sex and the city ###-#5 Drama. Comedy. I saw enough to be able to give an opinion. Ethics are mostly supported, but morality in areas of sex are explored pretty much exclusively from an early 21st-century fornication-can-be-okay viewpoint. At times, sex scenes would definitely be rated R, and some even go over that line, as this was an HBO series. Male-female relationship topics are intriguingly explored, but usually not from a Christian or religious angle. Some homosexual topics have been explored. Though some episodes were interesting to me, I don't think I learned much about relationships, except, maybe, for what NOT to do! lol. Shark ###-## Comedy. Detective. Drama. Legal. Not bad. The Simpsons #.5-##.5 Animated Comedy. Tends to be pretty mean-spirited. Crass. Crude. And lots of dumb, dude. Six Million Dollar Man ## Action/Adventure. Drama. Sci-fi. Okay. Too much slow-mo. Soap (Yes, that's it's name.) #.5-## Sitcom. Rarely saw. Dumb. Quirky. Soap operas even! Soaps. Rarely saw. Stargate Various series. ##.5-## Action/Adventure. Sci-fi. Drama. So-so, but I have seen only a few episodes. I don't like the casting a whole lot. Some of the episodes were mighty strange, and could make you wonder, in a way that the movie the Matrix or the movie The Truman Show might have done! Stargate: Atlantis Stargate: SG-1 Star Trek. Deep Space Nine. (on TV.) ##.5-## Action/Adventure. Drama. Sci-fi. A few episodes of misc. seasons. My comments about this are similar to Star Trek, The Next Generation and Star Trek Voyager. Star Trek. The Next Generation. (on DVD.) ###-## Sci-fi. Drama. Action/Adventure. I occasionally watched this series on TV. I saw ALL of this series on DVD -- or that's what my Netflix account seems to indicate. LOL. Season 1. ###? Seasons 2-7. ###?-##.5? When I first saw this series, I didn't like it. A not-terribly-friendly captain who seemed stuffy, if not stuck up; "Outer Limits" types of episodes. Cerebral sometimes but often little or no action; characters that were interesting, but not many that were loveable, as in The Original Series (TOS); I basically didn't like it a whole lot. And this after growing up loving TOS! See THAT review regarding the science, but I'd say that Next Generation and other Star Trek series went pretty far beyond, or it seemed that way to me. Next Generation carried on the legacy of lack of real religion in TOS, but made it even less likely for someone to believe. Superman ##? Action/Adventure. Sci-fi. Don't recall. The movie "Superman Returns" is the best Superman I've seen to date. Twilight Zone The LATER series. ##? Sci-fi. Mystery. Action/Adventure. Supernatural. Drama. What happened! I didn't really like it much. It seemed, dumber, and still does by comparison with the original series. I have seen only a few episodes. One made one consider the reality of life. The Unit ##?-###? (Saw when a friend was watching.) Not bad. Don't remember much. Saw when a friend was watching. The Untouchables ##? Almost never watched. As an adult I still find it dull. And I hate gangster themes, where criminals and even murderers are portrayed as being kinda cool. What's My Line? ###.5-## Acting. Comedy. Improvisational comedy. The first time I saw this, I said, "What IS this??" It was so funny! LOL. I was impressed in part because I assumed that it was people from the audience doing improvisational acting. When I saw another show, I realized that it was the same people. So it didn't seem as special to me. I don't know why I didn't go out of my way to watch it; I could have. Sometimes it's pretty funny. Sometimes just a bit too dumb to be funny. Drew Carey hosted. Wheel of Fortune ##.5-## Game show. Can be fun. Mostly "luck" early on, but requires mental agility and quickness. Wonder Woman ##.5-## Action/Adventure. Drama. Sci-fi. Saw all of Season 1 on DVD. I believe there were 3 seasons total. Though it was kind of corny for me as a young man, I actually kind of like it as an older man. X-Files ##.5 Drama. Sci-fi. It's O-K, but I have seen only a few episodes. I don't really recall much except that it's about aliens and about some alien conspiracy of some sort. In general, I recall it BOTHERING me that there was so little REAL, factual evidence presented from the MILLIONS of UFO sightings and thousands upon thousands of abductions. It's almost like TV and movies are being made about these things to deliberately get people to think it's all just fiction. But it isn't. Really. Zoom ## Young-children's show. ? ? ? ?? IF YOU KNOW WHAT THIS IS, LET ME KNOW! I saw a Western TV show--don't remember what--which had a missionary to Indians leaving and another taking over. The person taking over was a woman. When the man who was planning to leave saw this, he decided to stay a while to help. The episode had the single woman visiting the Indians, and becoming acquainted. When she visited, she spent time with the Indian women, realizing that they practiced polygamy, and that the Chief had multiple wives. She of course was curious about that. But more than this, the wives were curious about her, being single with no husband at all. While she may have found it odd that there were more than one wife, they responded saying something like, How much sense did it really make for one woman to do so much work in a household?, and that it made more sense if work was shared among women! LOL. (In those days, and even today in some places, there could be a LOT of work, manual labor, that is.) In fact, they thought that only one woman was--um, I think--UNCIVILIZED. LOL. (Reversing the typical stereotype that Indians were less civilized than the so-called white man.) I don't recall if jealousy was addressed. This MIGHT have been in B&W. It's pretty rare to find ANY show exploring any positive sides to polygamy, as the USA (and other "civilized" countries ) often can't get past thinking of it as a sexual thing, and a jealousy thing, and a cult thing. It's in the Bible, practiced by some pretty big names in there. And while multiple wives can be complicated, I am sure, it's not necessarily bizarre or only part of some "cult" mentality. IF ANYONE KNOWS WHAT THIS TV SHOW WAS, LET ME KNOW. Thanks.
Occasionally, specialty shows, like: The # ratings varied. The Academy Awards dance shows ice shows The Grammys The Olympics Maybe the Emmys, but hardly ever and so on.
Mini-series: The # ratings varied. More coming, maybe.
Roots ????.5 I don't know if or how many I saw. Don't recall. I hear it was powerful though. Taken ### Action. Sci-fi. Interesting concept, alien abductions. A practically-believable presentation in many aspects, though, like others, seriously lacking in GIVING actually-available evidences for that theme.
And LOTS of other TV shows that I am certain I am forgetting at the moment!
Wow. Did I really watch that much TV?? LOL.
ENDNOTES/FOOTNOTES, sort of: (deliberately out of order )
* Yeah, I know, Star Trek was Science Fiction, and it's old, and some of it effects seem cheesy now, compared to what is being made now, but still, the original Star Trek TV show had great characters, humor, and for its time (early 1960s) was pretty well done, all LONG before the Star Wars film effects blew everything out of the water. And some of the stories it tells are pretty decent too, lack of religion-associated Spirituality aside (typically ).
During a time in the U.S. when there were few black, Asian, and woman stars on TV shows, Star Trek had characters like Uhura (a black woman), Sulu (an Asian man), and even Chekov (a Russian male--during the Cold War! LOL.).
I once heard that the woman who played Uhura was thinking about quitting the show, but someone, Martin Luther King, Jr., I think, advised her to keep with it, that hers was a unique opportunity, because very few black women were stars on TV in the early 1960s!
Then there was the "green-blooded" alien Spock from the planet Vulcan, who was half Vulcan and half Human! A pretty cool guy. And maybe, as Kirk once said, the most "HUMAN" person he had ever known. (In our imperfect states, most of us aren't fully Human, not till the Resurrection.)
So there! One of the better TV shows of its day. LOL.
(For more of my thoughts on Star Trek, LOL, see My favorite TV show. LOL. Funny.)
