Do you celebrate any holidays during these winter months?

Please share what and why. Or just vote.

Folks, No commenting on others' traditions here, please, even if someone thinks of them as Christian, Jewish, "pagan", or otherwise.

This Poll should be somewhat anonymous.

Btw--

Merry Christmas and other holidays!

To friends, acquaintances, and friendly strangers! LOL.

Our family "tradition" is to get together all siblings at Mom's house.

There we typically would have a dinner, and then open presents for hours.*

People bring b/f, g/f, significant other, or maybe even a friend. Their children come. A semi-distant relative to my Mom's b/f often comes.

The house is usually pretty decked out, inside and out, by our Mom and her b/f: lights, tree, music playing outside, you name it.

Some might go to some service, while most probably do not.

Most in the family are not particularly religious. Well, there is a Buddhist, nominal Catholic (I guess), nominal Christian, non-religious, agnostic (I think), and misc.? Not sure about atheists. And I suppose they'd think of me as Christian and/or "religious", LOL.

This is my 3rd Christmas as a Vegetarian. No dead animals on MY plate, please! That's about as "religious" as I get!

I don't have a personal tradition, but I often say "Happy Birthday, Yahshua/Jesus!"

* It would be nice to reduce such, and get rid of all or most of the wrapping paper.

I went to my church's Christmas Eve service tonight. I don't think they had their heart in it - they did it to appease the congregation that expects a Christmas Eve service. It was an almost exact repeat of last year's service with the same very talented people singing the same beautiful songs. There was nothing wrong with it and it was quite nice. But I wanted to do more of the community singing and less of the sit and listening.

I remember Jesus' birth. I remember Hanukkah's miracle. If there is family nearby, great. If gifts are exchanged, nice. If food is shared, wonderful. If I'm on safari in Africa, we lower our expectations but increase our joy.

December 1998 my three children and I were on an camping safari in Kenya. On Christmas Eve we stopped at a small town general store. I bought gum and candy for my children. Around the campfire that night we played charades while a Masai warrior, wrapped in red plaid, watched. We laughed so hard.

When I was growing up my numerous older siblings would bring foreign-born roommates home for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We would share our food and Christmas Eve gift opening procedures and they would share stories of their homelands.

Being the youngest of six kids, the last belief in Santa Claus fell to me. My siblings' impatience convinced my parents to let us open just one present Christmas Eve. But when I deduced that Santa Claus was not real, about age 6, we started opening all presents on Christmas Eve. Christmas day was Mass and not much else - rather boring.

Unlike my best friend's family ritual, our gift opening was very orderly, one gift being opened at a time while all watched.

Now, I don't decorate at all and the only gift I bought was for my elderly mom 'cause I saw a need when I visited her.

Maybe my only tradition now is no tradition!

Have the merriest of Christmases!

I only go through the Christmas period simply because it is here and I take my holidays at this time, Jesus is for every day for me, I don't actually need this time of Year to celebrate, although I do love the songs.

Gods way is my way,...Clay

I celebrate Festivus as well. There has to be another way! I also find tinsel distracting.
