SHOULD A CHRISTIAN SET GOALS?

Ever met someone who wanted always to be open to the leading of the Holy Spirit? Before they decided anything, they prayed. They ask the Lord whether to go to work , brush their teeth, use deodorant, etc.

Some Christians believe that the Holy Spirit leads people only in a spontaneous way. That is why he does not move them to make plans.

On the other hand, some Christians are so rigid in their schedules that any little 'crisis' ruins their day. Sometimes they stick to their plans even when the only reason for doing so is to save face.

One seems to rely on their heart while the other relies on their mind. Shouldn't God be in control of heart and mind? Where is the balance? How do you know when are a Christian if you are spirit led? Will you know? or does only others know?

Could you or should you tell a fellow Christian if you feel they are only being led by their heart or only being led by their mind and not the Holy Spirit?

I'd like to hear what you think about this.

I think there are stages and levels of Christianity and when I was a newbie I went through a stage of asking God to show me His will in absolutely everything..yes including the flavour of the toothpaste I should be using..but I figured how ridiculous it was when I caught myself praying over sausages...to ketchup or not to ketchup...it was all part of my spiritual growth and there was no harm done even though it is plainly obvious tat God guides in a more subtle way by the way He has fashioned you to some extent so that even the decisions that we make from our own desires can be God guided or selfguided depending upon the situation

Yes gismo2,,

I personally know people who ask God whether or not to go to work and or whether to get out of bed and when to get out of bed, what clothes to wear. It is "their" relationship with God, and honestly, I think it is just a heart thing and they are not using their heads. I am just trying to figure the balance. Thank you for your post.

Hi Caroline,

Thanks for your response. I like your answer. I think personality certainly has a lot to do with it.
