Lisa Berlin, a study's lead author and research scientist at the Center for Child and Family Policy at Duke University, says no when the kid is age one or less. Long term negative effects and increase in aggressive behavior is seen when toddlers and infants are spanked. Thinking skills are affected adversely in these children who are spanked. We need to model behavior before we can teach it. This is so true on BigChurch. Those with the biggest mouths often need the most improvement in their social skills. |

Hi Richard! Yes, I spanked my son growing up, but not until after he knew right from wrong. I agree, a child should not be spanked so young. But when my son became 6 or 7, he got very rebellious and I was a single mom, so discipline was exactly what he needed. When he was 21, he thanked me for his upbringing and told me that all his friends, that were never disciplined, grew up to be losers, drug addicts, and lazy and irresponsible. To this day, he is an excellent father, disciplines his own children, but loves them immensely. Proverbs contains many admonitions about sparing the rod and correcting our children. I have no regrets. I'd rather be instructed by the Bible than some of these so-called professionals.
