A few hours ago, the controversial, energetic, charismatic Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, in a rambling apologetic explained she had enough and was passing the ball, not only to the Lt. Governor, but stepping out of the game herself. She not only was quitting after being Alaska's governor for 2 1/2 years out of a 4 year term, she is quitting now period. Former President Nixon once quipped that you are not done in politics until you say I quit. Jesus had some things to say about quitters. He has no use for them. They will be thrown out and forgotten, even the good things they did will not be remembered or memorialized. Jesus, I believe, hates it when people never find salvation, but even more He loathes it when family members turn coat on Him, and refusing to repent, just say no more, I have had enough, too hoots with this Christian thing, I am effectively quitting and going back to the ways of the world. Someone once said that the hottest places in hell are reserved for those who in times of great moral crisis maintain their neutrality. Jesus upped the ante and said for those who have been inside and renege it would be better for them not to have been born. Why is this? I feel it is because they have knowledge of what it is like in the Kingdom and know more painfully well from whence they have fallen. WE are all in politics like it or not. Before the public eye, day and night, we are ever on display. Also, inside as well we are an open book to ourselves just how much we need Jesus to cover our sinful nature. Outside and inside we are in the fray everyday. There is no escape or easy road for a Christian. The hardest and most difficult roads are those who are in the national spotlight. What they go through is humanly impossible. Like the apostle Paul they are beaten, cast out, and maligned all the way. I am referring to persons as Evangelists Billy Graham, and Joel Osteen. Join the fray if you will, and beat up on them some more, but most people have no idea of the nightmarish life of pressure they have to endure all their God given days. Billy Graham said he could not even speak openly to his wife in their bedroom because of listening devices that could pick up even his most private conversations. He could not just check into a hotel and go to his room. Each time his hotel room had to be checked for people hiding out in there, especially women. We think perhaps we are not living in a fish bowl like this, but we are. In every conversation, every decision, our words and actions are watched. We convict the world around us by our difference, our oddity, actually Jesus in us. The apostles, after Jesus resurrection, when standing before the Jewish authorities were noticed as having been with Jesus. He rubs off on us. People can not see us and not see some of Jesus in us. Its a battle faith. What is the line in the sand we have crossed? We have stepped out in faith and committed our trust to Jesus to cover our sinful nature, and cover our mistakes in practice, but none the less, visibly allow our lives to reflect the Spirit of Jesus who lives withinus. He burns not only on the pages of history, but daily through our lives. This is the Christian life then. We are walking, talking, burning light houses shining a beacon of light to all who are desperately fighting for their lives in the raging seas of life. We are beacons of salvation. To turn off our light and throw ourselves back into the drowning sea is a death that is not worth dying. To continue to shine and endure all weathers is our calling. We can do it. Millions before us have done it, and are part of the great cloud of witnesses. There is no shame in being down if you get back up. The shame is staying down. Get back up and continue the fight. Everyone gets knocked down. Stay in the game and rise again. Blessings, |
