Job 31:1

This is a passage that I have known about for years, and kind of had a thought, "well that doesn't really apply to me"----- until today. God spoke.

I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a girl. Job 31:1

When we hear the word "lust" we almost always jump to sexually. But I got digging a little deeper on this.

Webster's definition's for the word lust are: 1 obsolete a : pleasure, delight b : personal inclination : WISH
2 : usually intense or unbridled sexual desire : lasciviousness
3 a : AN INTENSE LONGING: craving b : enthusiasm, eagerness

How many of us women are comparing ourselves to others, "If only I had hair like that, legs like that, etc. If only whatever then everything would be perfect. Isn't this also looking lustfully on a woman, looking with intense longing and wishing, as defined above.

I'm extremely guilty of this, wishing that I was different on many levels. Yes, in my head I can rationalize that God made me the way I am etc. but the reality is, on this side of eternity, I think we all long for things to be different. That in itself is not sin, but where the sin enters is when the intensity of it grows.

God made each of us in His own image, but along the way, other's and ourselves have made choices along the way on what to do with these bodies God gave us. And because of those choices we've made, we make other choices and some of those choices are sinful.

So today, I'm making a covenant with my eyes, not to compare myself to other women, but to celebrate the way God made me--to take responsibility for the choices I've made.

Any thoughts?

When I was younger I had a head of Thick red hair by the time I was 20 I finally had it in a way that I liked. I started loosing my hair at 22 & was very self concious about it until I went to my High School 10 year reunion- There were 3 guys Balder than Me.I have been able to accept that my body will change as I get older.
We men are visually wired & why we have a problem with Lust when it comes to women. We look- we like- we want & that is where we get into trouble.

I have the same challenge in comparing myself to others. You brought up class reunions, and in 15-20 yrs, we all will have changed on the outside, but fewer still change on the inside. Yes, it's a struggle, hopefully sometime on this side of glory it wont be, but I don't think we'd be human if we didn't want things differently. I just heard God speak that this morning to me and wanted to share. THanks for stopping by. sharyl
