In the passage below, the Word talks about how God disciplines and corrects His children. How has God disciplined you? In what ways does He discipline His children in general? Hebrews 12:5-19 My son, do not think lightly or scorn to submit to the correction and discipline of the Lord, nor lose courage and give up and faint when you are reproved or corrected by Him; 6 For the Lord corrects and disciplines everyone whom He loves, and He punishes, even scourges, every son whom He accepts and welcomes to His heart and cherishes. 7 You must submit to and endure [correction] for discipline; God is dealing with you as with sons. For what son is there whom his father does not [thus] train and correct and discipline? 8 Now if you are exempt from correction and left without discipline in which all [of God's children] share, then you are illegitimate offspring and not true sons [at all]. [Prov 3:11,12.] 9 Moreover, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we yielded [to them] and respected [them for training us]. Shall we not much more cheerfully submit to the Father of spirits and so [truly] live? 10 For [our earthly fathers] disciplined us for only a short period of time and chastised us as seemed proper and good to them; but He disciplines us for our certain good, that we may become sharers in His own holiness. 11 For the time being no discipline brings joy, but seems grievous and painful; but afterwards it yields a peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it [a harvest of fruit which consists in righteousness — in conformity to God's will in purpose, thought, and action, resulting in right living and right standing with God]. |

He just usually tells me gently through His still small voice that I'm not trusting Him or I'm not walking in love in a certain situation or that I am doubting Him or that I need to forgive, or I need to spend more time with Him, etc - I'm pretty quick to ask His forgiveness and get back in line with His will for me. Sometimes He uses another person that has a tender heart to tell me things. I personally don't need harsh, blunt or brutal words or someone to smack me upside the head - I've had too much abuse in my past to respond well to those tactics. Altho I know others may need a bolder approach. How can we not praise Him - Marilyn How can we NOT praise Him - Marilyn

God usually disciplines me by letting me make a public spectacle of myself with words that I have spoken coming back to haunt me and the humiliation that comes with it is very sobering for my pride

Hi reallysaved, Thanks for this post. It is a good question. God disciplines me according to my offense. Caroline gave a good example of one way. When my words are spit out without seasoning, they usually come back to me and I have to "eat" them with the same bitterness I spit them out. Regurgitation is for dogs. It doesn't taste good. If I have been disobedient because I have not "learned" obedience in that area, He will usually speak to me in His Word. Then I will say "God, when did you put that in there"? Those are just a few ways that I have been disciplined. Freida Cherish all your happy moments: they make a fine cushion for old age.
