Is it okay to study other religions for truth or only Christianity?
Christianity only.
Some other religions are okay to study (please specify).
It is okay to learn from all religions.

Jesus says He is the way the truth and the life. I look only to Him for the truth I seek.

oh yeah, and in terms of studying, it depends how you define studying. I think it's important to know about other religions, so when we meet someone that has that belief, we know where they're coming from. I'm not saying in-depth, persay, but enough to know wher it fails and falls apart. Be ready to give an account for the truth you believe.

I don't study religions, including Christianity, for truth. I only study the Bible for truth, after all Jesus said that this is what we are to sanctify ourselves with in the 17th chapter of the Gospel of John. I only study religions for the same reason that law enforcement officers study phoney money.

I agree that we should now what our enemy is teaching others, as long as we are not studying the other religions trying to find truth in them like we do Christianity. Good point!

Sorry for the confusion. That's what I meant, not to be looking for truths where they don't exist, but to be able to talk with people from that "faith". I went to college with a girl who was a mormon, I had no clue what she believed, so I don't feel I was as an effective as a witness, (showing flaws about her beliefs, etc)

Truth can ONLY be found in the Word of God and the name of Jesus. That's the only place it exists. If the Word says something different than anything else, the word is truth and the other is "NOT TRUE".

SOrry for the confusion. And tagging off Bryan's comment-- the only way we can know the phoney is to know the truth. Law enforcement doesn't study counterfeit money, they study the real stuff, so they know the real stuff so well that they can spot the fake stuff instantly!!!!!!!

Yes, you are correct that the Bible is the only source of Truth. If anything contradicts the Word, it must be thrown out. I do believe there is value in knowing what other religions believe, though. The most effective evangelists to the cults are those who have studied their religions extensively. Perhaps you are not called to do that.

I have heard the study of cults being compared to studying real money to catch counterfeits before, but I don't think it is a good analogy. We are not trying to detect the counterfeit here. We are trying to rescue people who are believing that the counterfeit has value. I think it is different.

Dear Miss Really Saved,
I agreed with most of what you had to say, especially the first few paragraphs. Anyway, You are a kind sweet woman and may God bless you richly with what and whom you are looking for. Sam

Thanks! The Lord already brought me the most wonderful man in the world. Look back in my blog for the whole story of our short and sweet courtship, engagement and honeymoon. I allowed the Lord to choose my mate for me and He did more than I could have dreamed or asked for. I pray the same for you!
