WHAT IS THE CHURCH THE BIBLE SPEAKS ABOUT?

One just doesn’t drive up and down the shady streets of our communities, looking for the perfect church. Rather, we seek with intelligence for a Church that adheres to bible principals or at least I feel one should. So I ask: “What is the church of the Bible? Where is it? Am I a member of it, or am I not?” Why would men set aside that name, and designate themselves by human heroes such as Lutheran for Martin Luther or name themselves after some form of organization such as Presbyterian or adopt titles according to some individual point of doctrine such as Baptist?

There is no scriptural basis for this common practice of naming a church after a hero or doctrine. Yet, we see it everywhere. Now I have attended all of these types of churches, many of which do not adhere to the traditional old testament or new testament teachings in their entirety and I am sure that you have also.

Let me hear your comments as to why you think there is no exclusive name for the church which is referenced in the bible. Why not simply call it Christian Church?

I wonder now why one of the churches I attend does not proclaim one of these titles? Perhaps, I shall ask. For that matter, I’m not even sure what there affiliation is, perhaps this is why they don’t. Perhaps, I have found the church of the bible. I’ll let you know once I find out.

The Church that Jesus established in the following passage:-

Mt 16:16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Mt 16:17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.

does not exist in 1 collective physical body at the moment. "read my comments on yr post of yeasterday." We are united spiritualy but phyically scattered, however we will be physically united at the rapture.

2Cor. 4:18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal

Your comments about all these differents names etc. is right. I feel that if we put all the different churches in a circle, the True Church the Jesus founded would lie in the Middle. Most churches that believe in the Scriptures of the Cannons from the Council of Nicea of 3?? Ad have ita little bit right & a little bit wrong.

Wow,

I cannot think of anything to add to what linus801 has already typed. I do believe that we are scattered, is we are strategickally placed in order to show others the way to God. If we could possibly get together in one place, we probably would not do as God has commanded. I know that I would not want to leave such a place as described in scripture. I would want to remain there all day, every day. The naming of the churches merely show where the people's allegiance is. If it isn't to God, and rather to man, then.....so is the name.

Cherish all your happy moments: they make a fine cushion for old age.

The church is the Lord's people. They are those that belong to Him, that have surrendered their life and their will- to Him. They are living for Him. They are His Body- His people, His bride.

As far as the buildings or the names------

The buildings are simply for people to gather

& Names-----

I believe God's people, "God's church" are from various "denominations"------- and some with no denomination at all. But they will have one thing in common-

they will have accepted Christ as Saviour.

Sheri, the Bible does contain an exclusive reference to us, as The Bride of Christ, Rev. 21:9 . Personally I think this is sufficient as far as a name for the church goes although there are many other titles that the Bible gives for the church, several of which are used by certain denominations or individual churches (Church of God, Acts 20:28, House of God & Church of The Living God I Tim. 1:15).

This is one of the reasons I am non-denominational as well as experiencing the same things that we all do, that no one denomination that I have found fully follow the word of God. They all do as in the following scripture.

Mr 7:6 He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
Mr 7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
Mr 7:8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
Mr 7:9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition

I agree with the others who have said that the true church is scattered amongst the many denominations.

Ephesians 6:13 . . .and having done all, to stand

The believers are the church.....keep in mind what Jesus is saying is when he was fulfilling the Law. In that time there was no Holy Spirit residing in someone seeking God. The Gentiles had no hope because the Law was not given for them.

Jesus is saying that peoples traditions nullify Gods word in their life. V9

But I will say this....there is no group that meets that is of similar belief that is non denominational. They too have their belief system. That is all a doctrine is. It is a groups agreement that what their interpetation of the bible is the correct one.

I believe the Church is the whole body of Christ and not the little segments we find here and there. The denominations are no more than care groups, maybe in a organized fashion.

But I believe that when people get together it is for edification and encouragement of the believer. It is fro equiping the young believer to be able to trust the Holy Spirit and learn and build an intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit. I believe that everyone in a fellowship has something to share whenever they meet. i do not believe we are to have a constant mouthpiece and a situation where one person speaks everyweek. That constitutes a go between...a King. God wants intimacy with you. There is one mediator between God and man and that is Jesus. No pastor, friend or priest is your meditator.

The Holy Spirit is there to teach each believer all things. To do that you have to sit down before the Holy Spirit.

It says to not forsake the gathering of believers. That doesn mean it has to have a name in front of it. Just gather. Share, pray encourage and lift up Jesus Christ. That is fellowship.

But the Church? It is all believers. We are the Church. The Bride. The bride is made spotless by the finished work of Jesus Christ on that cross. We are the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ. Righteous is also spotless.

Have a great day Sheri...i am off to Jacksonville
