I was listening to a talk show today ( The Allen Hunt show ), and he was discussing the death of Tim Russert ( Host of the NBC's Meet the Press ). Allen Hunt believes that the way Tim Russet died; is the best way to die ( suddenly doing what you enjoy ).

What do you think is the best way to die ?
Suddenly like Tim Russert.
Painlessly in your sleep.
Slowly of some incurable disease.
While in the embrace of a loved one.
Falling from a high mountain.
In an automobile crash.
While eating your favorite meal.
Being tortured to death, for witnessing for Christ.
It really doesn't matter.

Well I never thought much about the best way for me to die but I certainly know the worse way would be to have me climbing a cliff and then a black widow craws up and bites me then falling to the water below have a great white shark finish the job and eat me alive I'm petrified of them both

Hmmmm...two things come to mind, to die in Christ and to go out with my boots on...I suppose...and not debilitated and languishing.
I'd be nice to be allowed the luxury of saying..."To you I commend my spirit..."
No doubt my death will be fitting though, whatever the case shall be!

Hi godlycook!

Perhaps I won't have to die, perhaps I'll just be transformed in the twinkling of an eye.
I opted for that choice, lol.

Whatever way God chooses for me would be best.
Even if it be a painful slow death He will give me the strength to endure adversity and the pain with courage,as He always does.

Thats interesting..........to ba able to make arrangements and all, but usually someone in the family ends up making all the arrangements anyway. Its good to have a living will, so you get to decide what happens to you ..... Things like, do you want the plug pulled ?

The way in which we die matters little, especially if we die without knowing Christ. Be it slowly or quickly, death is not our comforter; but our enemy, the last enemy. As for the when, where, and how we die....... our days are numbered, and God has decreed the method.

I'll have to die the way God has ordain it to be......I may not like it, but I can do nothing to change it.

body only functioning at survival level due to science, brain alive... that'll give one a lot of time to think and pray... i wonder what one would be praying...

i think i'd be praying that they read my wishes to harvest (glean) what they can of my body, while it is still viable, to give someone else healing in their lives. i want to have the peace of knowing that the tissues weren't damaged, due to hesitancy.

i agree that it's good to make the choices we can as we go along.

none of us ever know our appointed time or if it will hit us hard
or quietly, but quickly and take our bodies away. or if it'll hit us hard or quietly, but slowly take us from this existence. this year, month, week, day, hour, moment, could be our time. are we prepared? i don't think we ever are precisely prepared for the moment, but we know that there are some preparations that we need to know we've made...

the Lord bless you, shar

I know a woman who is wheel chair bond and horrified at the idea that because she cannot use her body she should not be alive. The movie, Million Dollar Baby won an Oscar suggesting that mercy-killing a quadroplegic was heroic. She said people look at her and assume she does not want to be alive. This is not the case. Our life on this earth is so short. As Christians we have eternity in the freedoms of heaven to look forward to. What's a few decades in a limited body??

I hope your earthly exit is far in the future and extremely gentle!

hi fieldlilies, thank you for your comment. i will respond to clarify. i am talking about the situation in which a person has nothing left, but to die, but instead of letting it happen naturally - the person is attached to artificial life support, because the brain is alive. the person is ready to die, but modern science won't allow people to die anymore, unless you tell them that you refuse the artificial life support. so, they intubate them, they pace make them, they IV them, they respirate them and they wait for the brain to die. well, that is a person trapped in a dead body that science is keeping alive - because the brain is alive. AND, once this process is started, the family is often/if not usually powerless to stop the life support. this is what i'm talking about.

i certainly don't encourage anything of the nature of what you are suggesting. i am disabled and i know the fears of being vulnerable and being a targeted population, but that is not what this is about. the movie is a nasty representation of the way that people's ideas of right and wrong can get distorted. it's a wake-up call. my best friend has severe disabilities. she loves life. having a perfect body doesn't mean you love life. they just don't correlate.

i'm talking about a few years on life support with no ability to do anything, except experience a long, slow death, which would be over, in a few minutes if someone would just pull the plug... the silent scream.

but it's illegal.

Who can forget the milestone case of Karen Ann Quinlan, and the ordeal her family went through ? But even after the court ruled to remove Karen from the respirator, she still lived for another nine years ( before finally dying from complications of pneumonia ). When the plug was pulled, she was expected to die, but her family had to watch, as she continued to suffer. She died when the Lord was ready to take her, and not a moment before.

Just as we can't help out in our salvation, we can't help out in our death ( we don't get to pick and choose when ( or how ) we will be saved or die ). I'm certain someone is thinking....what about suicide ? " I can take my own life when I'm good and ready. "

Steve, check this out.

Texas woman wins a free funeral at baseball game

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (AP) - Elaine Fulps was unusually happy for a woman who just got her funeral all lined up. Maybe that's because the 60-year-old Arlington woman who just won the funeral in a promotion at a minor league baseball game won't need to cash in her prize any time soon.

"I almost croaked many times," said Fulps, who donned a neck brace and has undergone 20 surgeries for various medical problems. "God still has me around for a reason. To win a funeral."

The $10,000 prize won't expire until after Fulps does, said Ron Alexander, the sales manager at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.

Oak Grove partnered with the Grand Prairie AirHogs of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball and Irving's Chapel of Roses Funeral Home for the promotion at Tuesday night's game.

Fans in this Dallas suburb were eager to join in the grim fun.

Some finalists for the prize arrived dressed in black or looking like death. Before the game, the finalists participated in a pallbearer's race, a mummy wrap and a eulogy delivery in between innings.

Fulps, randomly chosen as the winner at night's end, said she'll choose a casket and plot as soon as she recovers.

"I'm going to pick a spot under a tree out of the Texas heat," she said in The Dallas Morning News' Wednesday editions. "And let's hope it's a pet-free cemetery. I don't want to get watered on."
