The Current World Thursday Scripture Reading:Luke 4:6, John 12:31, Eph 2:2, Col 2:13-15 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places”(Ephesians 6:12) The Current World We have seen that Hebrews chapter 5 explains that the world which is to come will not be given to the angels to govern but to men. In the current world, however, the angels have great influence and dominion (Eph. 2:2). Although countries have their leaders, we know that there is a spiritual world acting in a hidden manner. The Gospel of Luke, for example, notes that the devil showed Jesus all the kingdoms of the world and said, “All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish” (4:6b). Satan is the prince of this world (John 12:31), that is why in the Epistle to the Ephesians, the apostle Paul explained, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” (6:12). There are over two hundred countries, each with its own system of government. However, according to the biblical interpretation, behind all these is the prince of this world, Satan. In fact, all these systems can be used and manipulated by God’s adversary, whether American, European, Asian, African or Australian. Nevertheless, Colossians 2:13-15 primarily shows us how God made us alive together with Christ and then how He dealt with the principalities and powers linked to Satan: “And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcission of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” On the cross the Lord Jesus triumphed over the principalities and powers, and in His coming, He will destroy all of Satan’s armies: “Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power.”(1 Cor 15:24) |
