Something for you to think on User.

Matthew 13:24-30 He presented another illustration to them, saying: “The Kingdom of the heavens may be likened to a man who sowed fine seed in his field. While men were sleeping, his enemy came and oversowed weeds in among the wheat and left. When the stalk sprouted and produced fruit, then the weeds also appeared. So the slaves of the master of the house came and said to him, ‘Master, did you not sow fine seed in your field? How, then, does it have weeds?’ He said to them, ‘An enemy, a man, did this.’ The slaves said to him, ‘Do you want us, then, to go out and collect them?’ He said, ‘No, for fear that while collecting the weeds, you uproot the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest, and in the harvest season, I will tell the reapers: First collect the weeds and bind them in bundles to burn them up; then gather the wheat into my storehouse.’”
Obviously, the man here, represents Jesus.
The wheat represents Christians while the weeds represent those of christendom.

Jesus warned that a newly planted field of anointed Christians would be oversown with imitation christians. The groups, he said, would be allowed to grow side by side - undisturbed until the harvest, which would come at "a conclusion of a system of things."

Matthew 13:36-43 Then after dismissing the crowds, he went into the house. His disciples came to him and said: “Explain to us the illustration of the weeds in the field.” In response he said: “The sower of the fine seed is the Son of man; the field is the world. As for the fine seed, these are the sons of the Kingdom, but the weeds are the sons of the wicked one, and the enemy who sowed them is the Devil. The harvest is a conclusion of a system of things, and the reapers are angels. Therefore, just as the weeds are collected and burned with fire, so it will be in the conclusion of the system of things. The Son of man will send his angels, and they will collect out from his Kingdom all things that cause stumbling and people who practice lawlessness, and they will pitch them into the fiery furnace. There is where their weeping and the gnashing of their teeth will be. At that time the righteous ones will shine as brightly as the sun in the Kingdom of their Father. Let the one who has ears listen.
This precludes any ideas of a 'rapture'.

It was not long before Jesus' words began to come true. The apostasy made inroads in the first century, but Jesus' faithful apostles acted "as a restraint,' holding back the contamination and influence of false teachings.
2Thessalonians 2:3,6, 7 Let no one lead you astray in any way, because it will not come unless the apostasy comes first and the man of lawlessness gets revealed, the son of destruction and now you know what is acting as a restraint, so that he will be revealed in his own due time. True, the mystery of this lawlessness is already at work, but only until the one who is right now acting as a restraint is out of the way.

However, once the last of the apostles died, the apostasy took root and flourished during a long growing season that lasted for many centuries.
Additionally, during that time, the weeds became many and the blades of wheat were few. There was no consistent, organized channel for dispensing spiritual food.
Fortunately for us in these 'last days', that eventually changed.

So, you see, it matters not a great deal about the stream of time and events that brought on particular aspects of the great apostasy eventhough it is of interest and it is good to educate yourself but it matters much more that we now learn the Truth of Scriptures and stand on the side of God and His loving son, Jesus.

To do this we must know the Truth free of the teachings of the apostasy in all its many and complexed variations.

At the dawn of the second century C.E., "the weeds appeared" when imitation christians became visible in the world field. By the fourth century, weedlike christians had greatly outnumbered anointed Christians.
Jesus said: Let both grow together until the harvest." and the harvest has been going on for 100 years now and is growing apace.

This command reveals that from the first century until today, there have always been some anointed Christians on earth. That conclusion is confirmed by what Jesus later told his disciples.
Matthew 28:19+20 Go, therefore, and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you. And look! I am with you all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.

So, anointed Christians would be protected by Jesus all the days leading up to the time of the end of satan's system.
However, since they were overgrown by weedlike christians, we do not know for certain who belonged to the wheat class during that long period of time.
Happily, some decades before the start of the harvest season, the wheat class became discernible.

Jesus showed personal interest in people. We see his loving concern when he healed the sick and infirm and resurrected the dead.
However, Jesus' primary mission was not that of healing people physically. His preaching and teaching had a far more enduring impact on people's lives.
How so?
We know that those whom Jesus healed and resurrected in the first century, for example, eventually grew old and died, whereas those who responded favourably to the message he preached put themselves inline for everlasting life.
John 11:25+26 Jesus said to her: “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life; and everyone who is living and exercises faith in me will never die at all. Do you believe this?”

The preaching work that Jesus started in the first century is being done on an even grander scale today.
More than 8 million active Witnesses are zealously proclaiming God's Kingdom in 239 lands conducting 9,500,000 Bible studies and racking up nearly 2 billion hours in the Field! That is a 2.2 percent increase over the previous year.
Many people are 'recognizing their spiritual need" and doing something about it.

This preaching and the continued increases over the past 100 years gives clear evidence that we are in the 'last days.'
Acts 4:16 ...“What should we do with these men? Because, for a fact, a noteworthy sign has occurred through them, one evident to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it.
Acts 5:35-39 Then he said to them: “Men of Israel, be careful as to what you intend to do about these men. For instance, before these days Theudas rose up, saying he himself was somebody, and a number of men, about 400, joined his party. But he was done away with, and all those who were following him were dispersed and came to nothing. After him, Judas the Gallilean rose up in the days of the registration, and he drew followers after himself. That man also perished, and all those who were following him were scattered. So under the present circumstances, I say to you, do not meddle with these men, but let them alone. For if this scheme or this work is from men, it will be overthrown; but if it is from God, you will not be able to overthrow them. Otherwise, you may even be found fighters against God himself.”
