Ezekiel

i have been reading Ezekiel lately. it starts out like a science fiction story with the description of the living creatures he sees in heaven. i used to be a big s/f buff and it didn't bother me, yet the thought of something in heaven having wheels was a little hard to deal with. i have always thought of god and heaven as being completely organic. when i googled it for a picture, i found that it was more of a wheeled throne, than that the beasts were wheeled. that was still mechanical, but it was easier to understand. and every image of the wheels i could find were more of a gyroscopic type wheel, i must have missed that in the description.

the living creatures come again in Ezekiel 10, and the wheels are described more clearly as being right next to them, and it being a throne is clearer. i may have missed the throne in the opening.

I'm not making a comment on Ezekiel, but the drawing above.

Mark; Luke and John referred to as the Lion; the Ox and the Eagle. The missing one is the Man, symbol of Matthew.

Can alsobe found Rev. 4 6-8.

Of course Ezekiel was written far before Rev.

I have never heard of the gospel writers as being the 4 corners before, I didn't even realize they were holding up the throne before.

I was in 11 today and the throne was even more like the picture.

Revelation 4:6 - 8 (NIV):
8 - Also before the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal. In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures, and they were covered with eyes, in front and in back.

7 - The first living creature was like a lion, the second was like an ox, the third had a face like a man, the fourth was like a flying eagle.

8 - Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under his wings. Day and night they never stop saying: "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come."

Hi Rocky,
The symbolism in God's Word is amazing a thrilling when you get to understand it.

In Bible symbolism the bull is used to denote power and strength. The molten sea in front of Solomon’s temple rested on representations of 12 bulls, in groups of three facing each of the cardinal directions. (2Ch 4:2, 4) The four living creatures seen in vision by the prophet Ezekiel accompanying the chariotlike throne of Jehovah each had four faces, one of which was that of a bull. (Eze 1:10) In the vision of the apostle John, one of the four living creatures around the throne was like a young bull. (Re 4:6, 7) Hence, the bull would fitly represent one of Jehovah’s basic attributes, namely, unlimited power.—Ps 62:11; Isa 40:26.

Most of the Scriptural references to the lion are figurative, or illustrative. The entire nation of Israel (Nu 23:24; 24:9), and individually the tribes of Judah (Ge 49:9) and Gad (De 33:20), were prophetically compared to lions, representative of invincibility and courage in righteous warfare. (Compare 2Sa 17:10; 1Ch 12:8; Pr 28:1.) Jehovah likens himself to a lion in executing judgment on his unfaithful people. (Ho 5:14; 11:10; 13: 7-9) And God’s foremost judicial officer, Jesus Christ, is “the Lion that is of the tribe of Judah.” (Re 5:5) Appropriately, therefore, the lion, as a symbol of courageous justice, is associated with Jehovah’s presence and throne.—Eze 1:10; 10:14; Re 4: 7.

Eagles are used in Revelation to represent creatures attending God’s throne and announcing the judgment messages of God for those on earth, doubtless to indicate swiftness and farsightedness.—Re 4: 7; 8:13; compare Eze 1:10; 10:14.

In a figurative and prophetic sense, chariots are symbols of war just like the bow and sword. (Isa 21: 7, 9; Zec 9:10) “The war chariots of God” are said to be “in tens of thousands, thousands over and over again,” denoting God’s invincible power to destroy his enemies.—Ps 68:17; 2Ki 6:17.
Jehovah's Chariot is on the move! Jehovah’s written Word acquaints us with the heavenly part of his organization. For example, the prophet Ezekiel received a vision in which the heavenly part of God’s organization is represented by a celestial chariot. (Ezek. 1:4-28 ) Jehovah rides on this chariot, and it goes wherever his spirit impels it to go. In turn, the heavenly part of his organization influences the earthly part. With Christ and the holy angels about to destroy this wicked world, Jehovah’s chariot is rapidly moving toward the vindication of his sovereignty and the sanctification of his holy name!

Hope this helps your study Rocky.
Yours,
Katidid.

happy VD Katie. I never learned all that about exiekiel before, I don't think I ever studied it before. this is my fourth or fifth time through (I think), I think I never really read it closely before. I am not reading it that closely now either. the whole god's wrath of Israel's sin thing is hard to read

Hey Rocky,
Understand what you mean,...I used to have the same trouble. Tis one of the things I love about our study Meetings....we read 3 or 4 chapters each week and then do the study. It means you can give each chapter the attention and meditation it deserves.
Of course, having a clear understanding coming from Jesus helps mightily.
Also, it is wonderfully helpful to see what verses impacted other Brothers and Sisters and their personal insights and applications in their lives.
You could try just reading a few chapters each morning,...when you are fresh. Whereas if you read it at night there can be a tendency to 'skim' and not have it 'sink in' and reach the heart, altho' without understanding it can certainly seem like 'gobbledygook'.
Yours,
Katidid.
