And even though they are considered the smallest nation of all.

After 40 years in the desert they are numbered again. ALL of the people who left Egypt but were afraid of entering the Promise Land had to die first.
This new number is also interesting by comparing it to the first one...

Strategy is revealed by using those numbers to see how they travelled in the desert with the Ark of the Covenant....

You'll can find the first number right after leaving Egypt.
And the other one right before entering the Promised Land.

After they made the Ark of the Covenant it says where the different tribes were placed doing travel, compared to where the Ark was.

When you're thinking on the Exodus,....don't forget the wives and children of all those men (men counted from the age of 20) as well as the large amount of Egyptians and others who also went with them. They saw the power and truth of Jehovah as opposed to their own ineffectual false gods.
If you just suppose that each man had a wife that doubles the figure and then if they each had two children.......
Of course, not every man had a wife but those that did, most of them would have had children.
The number of people who left probably number well over 3 million.
See Ex 1, 9 +12.
Also remembering that in the 430 years from the time when the Abrahamic covenant took effect to the Exodus there were four generations. Considering the long life spans that they enjoyed during that time the men could have seen several generations born during his lifetime.

This all left Egypt totally decimated and it took years for them to recover economically. The news reports went far and wide which is why so many nations were scared of them. Egypt never fully recovered and although they later rose to positions of power again they were never again the powerhouse they were before the Plagues and the Exodus.

In the census taken a year after the Exodus, the Levites are also not included in the count as they are not 'abled-bodied' men. They were not counted for warfare etc.....being God's special tribe for sacred duty. They numbered 22,000 from one month of age.

Yours,
Katidid.
