I trust we recognize the potential of a partner, and nurture the relationship in whatever form it develops. Ideally, I believe in dating. A friendship confuses the potential of romance and a marriage relationship. Just my opinion.

Dating and courting isnt mentioned in the bible, and if we look at the history of when and where it came from (like he do with Halloween, Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny) we would see that both are a fairly recent concept that developed within the modern age (less than 200 years ago) and the church would forbit it from taking place with in its walls, like most do with drinking alcohol. The question to ask is "WWJD," and then look at the expample the he followed and them "DWJD" as he tells us in the bible of what he is doing to prepair for his current bride! Just before the accention, he told the remaining deciples, "I go to prepair a place for you, for where I am, you will be also." This in effect was and is a betrothal pattern. Jesus practiced betrothal. The bible says, "in everything you do, be immitators of Christ!" If Jesus didnt date us, his bride, then neither should we with our mates! Anything that we do, that Christ didnt do, is sin! The best way to find a mate, is to get the advice and counsel from friends and family, and if there is anything that they say that would indicate their disapproval, then that is a clear sign that trouble lies ahead.

I agree dating is not biblical. In scripture whenever God planned a match between two people, he engineered their meeting e.g. Rebekah and Isaac, Ruth and Boaz, Mary and Joseph etc and he also gave them instructions on the process of finding and recognising his chosen partner. Should christians date, thats the worlds ways.. I think I would rather go His way, after all he knows whats best for us and his ways are perfect and sure; waiting is preparation time folks, delay is not denial. Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.

Maria i'd like to add to that one too: Jesus and the church! we are his bride! not, "will become his bride, but he already are! We arent even married to him yet, but the bible already calls us his bride! That in itself should tell us what God concideres an unbreakable commitment. Did you also know that in order to break a betrothal, one must get a legal divorce, and divorce is only acceptable by God if adultry is commited. So, in actuality, Jesus would have the right to divorce us because of dating, but he hasnt because of the forgivness of sin (and hasnt choosen to allow us to suffer consequences because of it) All of this is something to ponder over!

Amen to that Skeptical. I would just like to tell you about my dear friend, who is also a prayer partner. After two years of praying about marriage with her I can thank the Lord she is finally going to be married. Her intended proposed this week. They had known each other for quite a number of years, but she has known for sure for the last 2 years that they were meant to be together as husband and wife. Her husband to be had known as well but he is very shy and because she had been married before and has been divorced for many years, with grown-up children and grandchildren he was reticent about if they would accept him. So I am rejoicing with my friend and praising God with her - isnt that cool. and she never even dated him ! lol. Marriage is a gift from God... ask for that gift from our heavenly father. Blessings

I have another story to add! My good (and only friend I have) was in and out of dating relationships for YEARS and kept getting hurt. A friend of his that he met at work, 12 years prior to them getting married knew that they were meant to be married and kept asking God all that time, "What is it with him? Why is he with all these other women? When is he going to wake up?" (And she knew and watched, persey, him being involved in the bedroom with them!) After all of that, my friend was asking God, "Where is my wife at?" And God said, "Have you considered "Jane?" HE laughed and said, "Yeah right! Thanks for offering, but NO!" God asked again two more times with in a 4 month peroid. My friend then started observing her, and God said to him? Is she not practicing Ephesisans 5 and 1 Corinthians 13? He said, "Yes! What do you want me to do?" God said, "I want you to marry her!" They eventually did get married and they have YET to be in an argument with each other after nine years of marriage! Come to find out too, his parents, whom couldnt remember the name ofd ANY of his girlfriends throughout the years said to him when he told them about him thinking about popping the question: "Oh! "Jane?" WE thought she;d be perfect for you!" ...And they had only met her once, 12 years prior! I'd also like to add to about Ruth and Boaz: Ruth, the girl persued the man, not the other way around! That is highly unusual. Most in todays church say that a woman shouldnt ask a man out, or pursue because it undermines that a man should be the leader, but it seems that God's definition of a "leader" is something different! The same happened in the story I just shared, in its own way!

Thats cool I love to know about these "matches made in heaven". although sometimes it takes time it will happen. I have thought of another one- another friend who is a cell group leader in church was nearly 40 before she married, she was desperate, as all her fellow christian friends had found their mates and were settled. She had just started attending a very small fellowship and she went to bible study and there was this guy there who was a young widower with two small children, his wife had just passed away after a long illness and he was bereft especially with his kids to care for. God spoke to Dean and told him that Steph was his wife, bearing in mind he had just been widowed for 6 months. He fell in love with her immediately and they both knew that God had brought them together. He was several years longer than her but she knew it was right. They have been married for 11 years now and have a little girl of their own. Their son (who is her step-son), 25, is a amazing young christian with a great ministry of evangelism. Stephanie brought up his two children and is blessed with her own daughter now, all because she and he were obedient to God, in spite of the fact that people said it was too soon to marry after his first wife's demise. They are now in leadership in the church and have a open home and wonderful ministry of hospitality. So our heavenly father does know what is best for us. I find all these stories very encouraging and would like to hear from anyone else who has a similar story to share. I agree with you about the example of Ruth and Boaz, she did pursue him lol, but God brought Ruth to Boaz's field. He knew where she would find her future husband. This speaks to me of Gods plan of things, in that he brings the woman to the man, as he did with Adam and Eve in the beginning, when everything was perfect in Eden, He created the woman from Adams rib after he had put him in a deep sleep and then bought the women to the man, not the other way round, which is of course is His way with "match-making". Blessings

I dont completly agree that its always the man that has to take the lead. With all the games that i've seen women play, I've said to God, "She will have to find me and ask me out!" I've seen several examples of when WOMEN have done this! There are exceptions to every rule. My friend that I gave the expample about, I forgot to mention that his now wife gave him a hint years prior. She said, "I had a dream about us getting marriend and tihs is where this event took place and what happened." Lo and Behold, 12 years later, everything in the dream came true! My friend actually said that she had told him several times that she was the one, but it took HIM having to pull his head out of the ground to see it.
