Matthew Ch6 v 9

The Lords prayer is In John Chapter 17, this prayer is really the prayer of the disciples. In the middle of the Lords prayer I noted that there is a division. In the first 3 petitions we see "thy" and the last 3 petitions is "us and our". In this we see the pattern for our christian walk we must put the Lord first and then ourselves. I would like to concentrate on the following line in the prayer.

Give us this day our daily bread.

By this, I believe, it means the daily physical necessities for life. What sort of bread? Some people see it as a spiritual bread in John Ch6:35 we read "And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst". Others say it is natural because bread is a staple in our diet. I prefer to think the Lord was talking of both, for without food the body dies. This is what I see as a perfect balance from the Lord, Isn't our God awesome?I believe that Christ was ministering to the WHOLE man He ministers to our spirit, our soul and our body!

When the Lord preached to the people he forgave their sins, he healed their sick but he also fed them, and we all know that in feeding the multitudes he used REAL bread. What the Lord did in his earthly ministry when he was in his body of flesh, he will, I believe, do again in his kingdom when he comes and sits upon the throne of David. It's said 2/3 of the world is starving today, I believe when the Lord returns hunger will be a thing of the past.

Christ is interested in meeting our needs everyday,if we study his life, Christ knows what it is like to struggle to make ends meet , he knew the meaning of the 2 mites and the disaster of losing a coin, he wore clothes that were patched, he didn't have the latest fashion of his day, he knew what it was like to shop within a budget, I believe, to feed a family too. The Lord talked about the housewife buying 2 birds which sold for a penny that shows me in the days of his flesh the Lord was aware and interested in the cost of living, he knew of the struggles that people had and how they had to work hard at making ends meet. In Hebrews 13:8 it tells me "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever." I believe that means he is the Savior, healer, baptizer and he is the provider. The Lord provides for each and every one of us, he wants us to ask him about our finances in this time of economic collapse. I believe that just as worry and fear effect the body and make us sick so ones physical condition can affect his spiritual walk, not only that but also his moral conduct. The God who made us is concerned about our needs he,the God who designed us, wants us to talk about our physical needs DO YOU HEAR THAT? He wants to hear what the doctor has said to you, he cares about you, present your case to him he will listen.

The Lord sends the rain to water the earth, there is life in the seed which springs to life, oxygen in the air to encourage its growth.. too often we take for granted the provision of the Lord. I wonder how many of us when we sit down for a meal even remember to thank the Lord for it? Give us this day our daily bread... Let me put it this way, the Lord wants us to ask of him, but I believe what we have to ask for is necessity. We are not told to pray for luxuries or super abundance but what we are promised is that we shall have enough. The Lord never skimps. In Psalm 37v25 David tells us "I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread." The promises of God never rails but I believe as I have stated before they refer to necessities only.To use an old cliche, he has promised to meet our needs, not our greed's!!!

This is what the Lords prayer means to me, to quote an old poet although I cannot remember his name I remember his words, "GOD LIVES AND ALL IS WELL!!! There is one word that stands out to me in the prayer the Lord gave us, he uses the word "Daily" The Lord wants to look after us daily and he wants us to trust him daily, or otherwise put .. One Day At A Time

I pray this blesses you as much as it has blessed me let me leave you with a closing thought from Psalm 118:24 "This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it".It's this day not someday ,but today. Live one day at a time don't think ahead, THISis the day....Stop worrying about tomorrow it will come, live this day and take every day as it comes and trust everyday as it comes.

Thank you for listening

What can I say, there's nothing I could add or take away from this text. Odd that you don't mention Luke 11:3 which shows the Lords Prayer a little different, and couldn't be any clearer with regards to daily bread being our physical substinance rather than spiritual.
There's a few things that come to mind with regards to asking God for our meals. How many ppl say this prayer day to day yet are so poor that they don't know when their next meal will be. This is often used by non believers as a negative point about Christianity, and in some ways they are right. Our daily bread doesn't mean a banquet, and we should not be gloutons about it, God has provided enough for everyone, yet because of our own greed I guess, some of us have banquets while others in poorer reagions miss out on their daily bread.
In recent years my waist line has grown a little, I weigh more and I can't help thinking that there is something I can do something to reduce that waste err.. waist line. and maybe give that excess to someone who has less than me.
So when I say 'our' daily bread. I'd like to remember that its 'our' and not just 'my'.

Thanks for sharing, God Bless.

Amen Drakk,

I know what you mean I guess thats what I was trying to say when I said the Lord meets our needs and not our greeds. Sometimes it helps to stop and think of what the Lord has provided for us, and then to share it with others, when or if we can..

God Richly Bless
