I Samuel 17: 1- 12

Each time I read this well read story of David and Goliath the Lord gives me more and more thoughts about the giants... In v4 we are introduced to the Philistine champion Goliath it tells us his height was 6 cubit and a span, to the bible student,I'm told an interesting fact, it's that 6 is the number of man or of flesh so here In Goliath we have a mountain of Flesh. I believe that Goliath is representing man at his best. He had 6 pieces of armour in all (2 shins remember) he emerges to me as a picture of flesh. In v12-14 we are introduced to Israels Champion David, the youngest of 8 sons and Gods young Champion!! If 7 in Gods spiritual language is the number of perfection and completeness , 8 represents the number of regeneration.

For 40 days Goliath tested Israel, just like the 40 years that the Children of Israel where in the wilderness I believe that 40 speaks of a time of testing and trial.

The battle took place in Judah, divine territory! In Joel Ch 2 the Lord called it his land. What happened to David I believe is going to happen to us all. What does it mean? To the believer it means the child of God is divine territory you belong to the Lord. In 1 Cor 6:19 the body is the temple of the Holy spirit. We as believers totally belong to the Lord. The amazing thing is when God drops the new nature into us it doesn't say he removes the old one. In us all Goliath and David exists. Goliath was much older than David to me that speaks of the old nature. We are all a walking battle, or perhaps better put Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. We as believers have a 3 fold enemy, lets say if the world got saved and the devil himself dropped dead right now we would still have an enemy. What is the enemy? We would still have ourselves to contend with.

David and Goliath were out to kill each other they couldn't come to terms or co-exist in the same country. Judah was too little for both of them, there could be no truce between them, one of them had to die. You have to kill Goliath or be killed by him I am thinking of Goliath as sin. If I tolerate sin then I will never advance or go on with God, the flesh will kill the spirit or the spirit will kill the flesh, they cannot exist together. If you make an agreement with the flesh then you will die,to personalize it for me I will get nowhere without confessing sin that the Lord hates and cannot tolerate, to be victorious I need the cleansing blood of the lamb. Paul said in Romans 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. As David looked at Goliath he seemed invincible he was experienced he had the knowledge of years. David was younger and inexperienced, it was surely an uneven match to all intense purposes. It seems that Goliath had the advantage!!!

David in v 40 Took 5 small stones, 5 the number of Grace, Why did he choose 5 stones? 1 for Goliath and the other 4 for his 4 brothers perhaps? David was NOT going to miss the mark, he was prepared. Davids victory was thorough he KILLED Goliath so that he couldn't come back again. I think each and everyone of knows what our Giants are. For me its discipline to read, pray and study because of distractions that shouldn't really be in the way. What is yours? That I leave you to think on, only you can answer for yourself. Remember Phil 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me". I noticed that Goliath was killed by a blow to the head which makes me think most of our battles are fought in our minds, they are, aren't they? In our thinking, what we think of people, what we say to people, I know these things come out of the mouth but first they are born in the mind. The proof of the grace of God in our lives is victory, lets walk on until our dream of victory becomes a reality for the Lords Honor and glory. Praise the Lord!!!

Love to you all .. Sunsets
