What books are you reading right now?

I work in a university library (egad!! liberal media!!!)

Here are some of the most thought provoking books to pass by my eyes lately.

Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi.
Garlic and Sapphires by Ruth Reichl.
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie.

Ones I'm looking forward to digging into.

Strand of a Thousand Pearls by Dorit Rabinyan.
Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates.
Ulysses by James Joyce.

(These books are chosen for their cultural voice.)

What are you reading right now?

I would say that right now, I'm into these types of books to help me learn to more about starting up my new venture and succeeding.

Before this phase, I was buying cookbooks and diet books! Ha, so conflicted.

...my new venture is a weight loss program!

Sherman Alexie wrote "Smoke Signals"!

"Dance Me Outside"...never heard that one. Hmm.

Dietrick Bonhoeffer..I've read some of his works. I've also read Elizabeth Elliot, Catherine Marshall, and Malcolm Muggeridge. Steve Saint? I met him at EAA (with Mincaye and Tementa) one year and read the full story in person.

I've been deliberately trying to stay away from Christian culture books. I used to have them coming out of the wazoo when I worked in Christian radio. A lot of it isn't very Biblical, just spritzed with scripture to prove their points.

I'm pretty hardened and cynical, as a result, to popular Christian fads.

I like the balance I receive when I read other points of view, basically viewing Christianity through other eyes.

But the last author I read all his books was Dietrick Bonhoeffer. He also wrote poems, besides theological books and papers. He was in Germany throughout WW2. Such a thought provocing theologian. He was Lutheren. There's a movie about him. "Dietrick Bonhoeffer Agent of Grace". A must see..

Dale Carnegie is absolutely timeless.

It sounds like you're a big fan of self-improvement books.

John Maxwell books and I just picked up a copy of a Dale Carnegie books with 2 of his greatest works.

I recently joined a Direct Marketing company that sells nutritional products - becoming very well known and most everyone that hears about it wants to try it...and these kinds of books help motivate and stimulate and have such a positive message.
