Could it be contradicting the the teaching of the Bible ?!

Could it be contradicting the teaching of the Gospel ?

If the church got involved in the field of social service , will this be interfering in the State's scope of work , and thus it will lose its spiritual function ?
Could it by this be contradicting what the Lord Jesus Christ said " My kingdom is not of this world ?
Or contradicting the teaching of the Bible ?

Any comment ? Opinion ?

Heck no! The church should be involved in meeting needs in the community, unfortunately, I don't see that happening now, or in the future. I think it can happen on a much more personal level. We-being the church can and should help those who are in need. His Kingdom is not of this world, the evidence is out- the state will require people to be divorced to receive assistance. I have heard of elder folks who live together without benefit of marriage to get their social security. That seems very much the "world" to me. I think the world gives-but with lots of bizarre strings attached. Anyway, very good topic here. I need to go to an appt. but I may be back here. Be blessed dear Bro!

Romans 14 verse 5 One person regards one day holier than other days, and another regards them all alike. 3 Each must be fully convinced in his own mind.

Hi Heartforedjehu

Thank you for your helpful comment.
I do agree with you.

True , the Lord Jesus Christ worked in both fields together .

He cared for the spirit as well as the body , for we read that ,

" Jesus went throughout Galilee , teaching in their synagoues , preaching the good news of the Kingdom , and healing every disease and sickness among the people "
( Mt.4:23 )

If the church then is keen in healing the sick and establishing hospitals and clinics , this will not be beyond her spiritual mission, for the church's mission is not only preaching , as we call it, but also alleviating people's suffering.

As u mentioned the church should not hold back from the acts of love and compassion under the plea that these are actually the function of the state.

Merciful works are required from every one.

The state has to do them and the church too , and even every individual.

We should not consider these things mere social services , but rather acts of love which is , after all , the first fruit of the Holy Spirit
( Gal.5:22 )
for upon it the whole law and the prophets depend as Christ taught us
( Mt.22:40 )

The Lord Jesus Christ cared about feeding the people as He cared about preaching.

The miracle of the five loaves and the two fishes are mentiomed in each of the four gospels.

And beautiful indeed are the words of the Lord Christ to his disciples ,
" You give them something to eat "
( Lk.9:13 )
This commandment then was a command from the Lord Jesus Christ to the church to feed the hungry.

See what the apostle James says ,

" Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this : to look after orphans and widows in their distress..........."
( Jas.1:27 )

If the church establishes orphanages , and concerns itself with the widows , and the poor in their distress .Would that be deviation from her original mission ?!!

Would it not rather be the "religion" that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless ?!

It the teaching of the Scripture , not of man.

Therefore , the church has showed interest in these things right since the Apostolic Era.
( Acts 6:1 ) ; ( Acts 4:33-35 )

The chuch cannot abstain from helping the poor , the orphans , the sick , the hungry...............

It will be disobedience to the Commandments of the Gospel , and failure to fulfill the commandment of love which the Scriptures describes as the greatest virtue ( 1 Cor.13 )

The Lord Christ made these acts of love , which are said to be social work, a basis for judgment on the Last Day.

He will say to those who stand to His left on the Last Day,

" Depart from Me, you who are cursed , into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels . For I was hungry and you gave Me nothing to eat , I was thirsty and you gave Me nothing to drink , I was a stranger and you did not invite me in , I needed clothes and you did not clothe Me , I was sick and in prison and you did not look after Me "

( Mt.25:41-43 )

Could they say to Him then , ' We are sorry , it was Ceaser's business , not God's , and You told us to give to Ceaser what was his and to God what was God's ?!!

Or would they say to Him : ' Why are you so concerned about them , Lord , since Your Kingdom is not of this world ?!!

Or will they readily go to the fire prepared for them , for having neglected the work of love , which the society nowdays calls 'social service ' ?!!

If this service is the duty of everyone , how much more , then , should the Church give a good example !

For the church , after all , consists of Christ's disciples following in the footsteps of their Master and Teacher who first showed the way .

This service which the church offers to the poor is actually offered to Christ Himself , For He said ,

" I tell you the truth , whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine , you did for Me " ( Mt.25:40 )

Serving the poor and the needy is not mere social work , but besides being an act of love , is also a means of protecting the poor from wrong doing .

It is because the state does not want any link to exist between the believers and God .

God bless you
