I would think that any nearby shelter would be able to help for at least a night or two.. and they would know what procedures to do to get them permanent housing..

Banana and toothbrushes... Oh no not again... lol

Also check with your church to see if there is an emergency fund that can help families in the community. While many churches may not have a fund per se for outside their membership, some have community food pantries that might be able to help as well. You may have to check outside one's denomination. Perhaps your area has a community coalition that can help weed through the red tape of getting government assistance.

Where I live the homeless shelters usually seperate the men and the women/children. They allow families to stay for up to 2 weeks at a time. There is also a place called BARRET HOUSE and they allow you to stay for 30 days, but it is only for woman and children. Like Yendor said, once a family has been in a homeless shelter, they get assigned a case number and eventually they can are able to get permanent housing. I have a list that I can offer you but it may not be helpful being that we live in different states. I will definitely keep this family in my prayers...

Thanx.

I'm going to put up a post on a local board and see if any churches around can offer assistance or know of who can.

There is no room at the inn here but she can have my living room if we can't find a way another way.

Whatever info you get from prissy.. if you call someone, never get off the phone unless you ask if they know someone who might be able to help.
Keep that phone network alive, it helped me out tremedously when I was down and out.
I called political leaders, police, hopitals social workers, businesses.. anyone I could think of.. if I got a 'no', I at least got a phone number.

I have kind of a rolodex here, but it only applies to my county.

See if your town has a community action
call the county commissioners....
always asking for other phone numbers.

If you would like to email me here and tell me what county and state you are in, I could try to research it tonight online and see what I can find online in your area. Google can be a tremendous resource. I could help dig through church websites and other resources listed online...

I kept asking until I came across someone who had a direct line to make things happen. I'll let you know what happens. Right now she has a temporary place so it's getting better for her and her grandchild.

Red tape??? I know there are ways around it. I got a number that might make things happen for her. Going to the shelter will help her faster than social services....or does it matter?

I figure that by now, you probably have found city and county offices for assistance. Here is what I have found so far with the churches in her area.
The Good Shepherd Baptist Church has a clothing program for people trying to get back into the workforce.

Christ and Grace Episcopal Church on Sycamore has a number of outreach ministries and even operate a men's shelter and a separate food pantry.

House of Restoration Church says they have community outreach and development programs to help families but it doesn't go into detail.

I'll keep checking for more....

Yes, I desire that every true believer here love me in their prayers.

Specifically, I ask God that He give me more of Himself in the reading and studying of His Word...

that my relationship with my Beloved grow more and more in Christ and towards each other...

that God continue to provide food, and clothing...

and that I grow in contentment at being homeless and knowing that this time in my life is to grow me so that I can comfort those with the comfort that God gives me...

and for His protection at being on the street...

and that the truth hidden in someone's heart be revealed so that I may be released from this cross....

If it be His will..

and for an increase in funds.

Thank you.

(as you can see I posted myself).

I'll definitely pray for you. His will be done in all things. I am also willing to research your area to see if I can find any community or church organizations that can help. Just tell me where to look.

I truly appreciate the extra mile you wish to travel with me, however...I am homeless and this is where the Lord desires for me at this time. It is His will. And as you can see my prayer request did not include being housed. I know God's will for me...and even the request for food and funds should not have been included because the Lord has already promised this to me. And honestly...He has NOT failed me.

The Lord has presently forbidden me from attending church fellowship. I will obey Him.

Thanks for your comment and please...just pray God use me according to His unique plan for my life.

So what is the situation with this family? Any good news? I went through church site after church site and was amazed how many said they had community outreach but it was like pancake dinner fund-raisers for the church. I was also amazed at how many churches didn't have websites and how many didn't bother to mention Jesus anywhere on their websites...

Are there any neighboring suburbs I could search... I am not having much luck finding resources in Petersburg VA...

Thank you so much for all that you have done. They have a temporary place to stay. I'm going to keep all the info for the just in case. Hope I won't have to use it. It doesn't surprise me about the churches. They have become more of a business of profit then being in the business of Christ. Just think of how many families could be taken care of if the churches became humble instead of a six flags over Jesus.

i do think so,the unemployment office here in sa tx has many branches, from unemployment benefits,to education ,to work search assistance, they even branch off into government assistance.

i dont know if it has always worked like that,or maybe it is just due to the bad economy.

they recently opened a new office right down the street from my house.

it was built to help all the people who recently lost their jobs in this neighborhood.

but i would refer her there, they at least will send her to the right place,i think.
