Could I possibly be spending more time in reading the Bible then working on my relationship with God? I talk to God throughout the day but I'm referring to the STOP and JUST BE in periods of prayer that I used to do. I've gotten soooo wrapped up in reading the Bible that I wonder if I'm neglecting my relationship with Him.

To Him be the glory.

Dear Jesus4me66,

Reading the Bible is working on your relationship with God!

In a relationship you spend time with a person getting to know them and you do this by talking to them. You talking to God throughout the day is great. But you also need God to talk to you. Where can you hear God talking to you? The Bible is God speaking to you.

Keep reading the Bible, to negelect it would be neglecting your relationship with Him.

You know the answer to that Donna..
Reading the Bible is having a relationship with Him..
Just don;t like being force fed by other's..God does not
force feed us if we don't want to be fed..

This reminds me of a song...

Feel my cup Lord.I lift it up Lord.
Come and quench this thirsting of my soul.
Bread of heaven fill my cup, fill it up and MAKE ME WHOLE!!!

Nice song

As I wrote above...it is having a relationship. But God hasn't been as close as when I spent more time in prayer. For me I think it is as important to spend time worshipping as well as being fed. In the OT, they sung His praises...

Beloved...

She doesn't get it!

jesus4me66...

YOU SAID: "But I do think that I need to spend more time on the one-on-one..."

RESPONSE: jesus4me66...when you spend time IN His Word (Bible), YOU ARE spending time one-on-one!

YOU SAID: "Spend time giving Him praise."

RESPONSE: And for what do you give Him praise? What is the basis of that praise? The praise you offer to God must be in accordance to His Word. When you study His Word (one-on-one) and receive a truth of what God is like, or what God did, or what God is doing...then you have a basis on which to praise Him. Let your praise be in response to what you learn of Him in His Word!

Everything a believer does in response to God must be in accordance to what they learn or know of God. If you read that God created the heaven and the earth...and you wonder about this magnificent act of God creating, then this is where your praise is directed. You praise Him for His wondrous work of creation.

If you read of how God gave promise of redemption to a fallen people in the Garden of Eden after Adam and Eve disobeyed God and ate the fruit...and read in the gospels of Jesus being the fulfillment of that promise...then your praise is directed to God on that basis.

One cannot truly praise God for something they know nothing about. If you know God personally and have met His Spirit, then you can praise Him for this memorable fellowship.

Reading your Bible is relationship with Him. Don't separate these two from each other.

I hope this helps.

Jesus4me, have you ever been reading your Bible and all of a sudden everything slows down?
You read the words real slow, not of your own effort or desire.

That is the Holy Spirit doing His part of the relationship. He is speaking back to you, through His Word.

Much more than that happens. I'm directed back and forth through the Bible....to certain areas. And yes, it is reeaal slow in the reading, crystal clear.

My prayers are confined to what I know of Him. I learn from Scripture who God is, what He's done, what He's doing now, and what He will do. I then pray HIS will in all that I am privileged in knowing. These are the prayers that get answered!

Anything beyond that is gibberish!

So you spend time other than reading the Bible with Him. You can't assume how much I read or what I know of the Bible. Or know how I pray and about what which is nothing about myself. If you got the "what" you should be praying for then you may have found a little pearl.

I agree, very little time is taught teaching people how to pray.

Example, someone has lost their job and wants you to pray for them.
Lk 12:24 Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?
This verse can be used in that prayer.

Luke 11:1..."And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples."

Teach us to pray. They already knew how to pray. This disciple was asking Jesus to discipline (disciple) him to pray as he saw the Lord disciplined to pray.

I was emphasizing that every Jewish member of that nation knew how to pray...

Here's a disciple of Jesus observing Jesus in prayer and asking Him to teach him to pray...

maybe the way Jesus had been observed praying to His Father.

Now that must've been something to witness!

You said you were a babe in Christ. I don't think you've learned how to pray and not learned to pray.

Are you disciplined to pray one hour morning, noon, and night?

I didn't come to that depth of commitment for about ten years. But when I did....

Thanx Yendor. If you read throughout the entire post then the whole purpose is revealed. First is was I don't need to spend one-on-one time with Him, then it went to I don't know what to pray about and ended in me not knowing my own needs. My question was never answered. No matter what I say...he is going to contradict so I'm not going to bother. And this thing about being a babe in Christ that I said months ago that I've explained over and over again...the babe part is realizing that religion was killing me, in bondage. My walk with Him is pure now without self-appointed teachers, that is how I'm a babe in Christ. I don't need any help with being indoctrinated...been there done that. If he would take the time to talk to me instead of AT me then he would have heard by now what I was saying. But there has been enough time spent on that....he can talk to himself now, I don't continue when it's one sided.

How is this an argument?

Now, I don't get it?

I don't have to know what others are thinking except what their thinking comes out of their mouths...or in this case...through text!

All I need to know is the Word of God, yendor, that's all!

Yes, a simple question. HisBelovedOne2 gave a simple answer that flew right over her head! So, I tried to help her to understand something that was disconnected from her mind and the truth of her question and what God has to say. Her question was flawed. HisBelovedOne2 tried to get her to understand that spending time in reading and studying God's Word IS SPENDING TIME WITH HIM! Hello?

How can one spend time with God outside His Word? Even if your Bible is not in front of you, the Word that was supposed to be hid in your heart IS! Or it is supposed to!

Deuteronomy 6:6-9..."And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: 7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. 8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. 9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates."

The Word, the Word, the Word! Everyday, every morning, every afternoon, every night... THE WORD!

Anything short of that is walking in the vanity of your own mind and of the world!

Now, tell me...where is the argument? An argument is when someone says something contrary to what you say and pursues it. And if you say there is an argument and I post the Word of God in application to her question...and she wants to say something contrary to the Wor of wisdom and knowledge...

then who is starting this argument?

Surely it is not God's Word. For me and my house I accept God's Word. I don't reject it as some here who call themselves "christian" do. What kind of "christian" rejects God's Word?

Not a true, born-again, Christian that's for sure!

Where I come from there are serious, hard-core, Christians. These put God's Word as the primacy of all they do. They read it. They study it. They are loyal to Christ and to brethren. These are Christians who would die for the brethren. But here at Big Church I have found a sort that just don't have the backbone to be Christians...they have been softened by a false gospel going on in churches today, and the true gospel of Jesus Christ has been so diluted that these Americanized Church-goers just don't get it.

I am on the front lines, yendor. I am a soldier for Christ. I am loyal and dedicated to my Lord and King. And there are others like me...true believers who believe God in everything He's said. So, when a little lamb has a question that she just doesn't herself understand...I am there to help. My Beloved is there to help. But if she does not wish my help...block me. Because as long as you name the Name of Christ I will come with the Word! The Word is my standard. I sleep Jesus, I eat Jesus, I dream Jesus...Every part of my life that was bought with a price belongs to Him. And I learn Him through His Word!

Now THAT'S Relationship!

I am sorry...I thought I was answering a fellow-believer's question having to do with God! My mistake. She said she was Christian. Maybe I am wrong.

[jeremiah shakes his head in disbelief as he polishes his armor and seeks brethren whose Father IS GOD!]

Here's an acronym...S.H.E.E.S.H!

There was no argument until you called for one in your words. Your words speak death or life. Which do you think you vocalized?

Salvation is of the LORD

Number 1. Who was speaking to you?

Number 2. My comment, "She doesn't get it" was not addressed to you. Let her answer it. It was addressed to HER. Let HER answer.

Number 3. Your interference was not necessary. YOU brought the idea of "argument" and "attack" into the equation. YOU did! Therefore, by your interference you are the cause of the turn of events on this thread.

Number 4. "She doesn't get it" was an acknowledgment to me that "She doesn't get it." How is that an attack?

Number 5. Stay out of other peoples business. She's an adult. She can speak for herself. If she has an issue with me she needs to speak it (Matt. 18:15).

Number 6. Speak for yourself. Speaking for other people can cause problems as it did here, unless you were asked to. Don't be a representative of other people unless you are specifically called to perform in that capacity.

This is wisdom.

well,if you pray, and seek God in the scripture at the same time,(it is very powerful)

sometimes it "feels good" to do a little more of one than the other.

but i have found that if you make a disciplined effort to balance them equally, then you will find a special spiritual reward.

Jesus for example said:

Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you..... (Mat 5:38-39a )

He didn't say "YOU HAVE READ that..." !!!

How hard is to understand that it IS the content that counts! THE SPIRIT IN THE WORD(S)!

How could the Comforter ever teach and explain whatsoever Jesus had said (and/or done), and testify of Him??? (cfr. John 14, 15, 16.) Including WHAT is NOT specifically written (word by word), but BEARS the unequivocal BREATH of the Holy Spirit, is of the same substance and has the same vibes? (wavelength)

Sorry BB...haven't been reading too many post lately. It was a good read.

To Him be the glory.

Is it possible?
With God all things are possible.

If you know to do good, spend more one-on-one time with God, and do it not, to you it is sin.

If we read the Bible while praying (talking to and with God)He never feels cheated.

1 Tim. 2:4 ...come to the (epignosis-knowledge) of (the truth - Jesus).

Most baby christians never read the instruction Book enough to grow up.

As for prayer.

Pray without ceasing.

That is a lot more than 1 hour 3 times a day.

For me it means, that I prayed the entire time I was composing this letter.

I am a prophet of the Lord God Almighty the Father of Jesus Christ.
