There is an age old argument that has raised it's UGLY HEAD ....AGAIN.

This...this ....thing.....is So polarizing that people get VEHEMENT and take positions really strong and fast. But...But....when you start quizzing them ...you get a surprize. They don't know the answer. I mean, they think that they are an expert just because the feel so strongly about one side or the other....

So, here is your chance to teach me something....I have asked a lot of people this

and
to this day....to this day....
I
have
never
received
a
satisfactory
answer...

What is the difference between Rock and Country music....????????????????

50,000 Miles Beneath My Brain - Ten Years After
57 Channels (And Nothin' On) - Bruce Springsteen

So, I can listen to these and become a 'classy' person, huh...?????

from my own view, I have listened to both and actually years ago was in a Country Band...Country Music is usually a story or a strong feeling that most people can relate too in life,Rock is alot of thoughts and ideas kind of thrown at you to a different beat.Country music can make you cry in your coffee and rock makes you feel like you don't need the coffee.Excuse me now, got to go get a cup.

Country is clearly of Satan and his minions.....roving the world and seeking to devour Rock.

Rock is clearly spoken of in the Bible..

Be a rock of refuge for me,
a strong fortress to save me!
For you are my rock and my fortress;
and for your name’s sake you lead me and guide me;
Psalm 31

Any questions???????

Ray Price used a symphony orchestra in the 60's to back him up on his country music.
Elvis used gospel quartets to back him up in his rock music.

They even use drums in gospel music...so I don't know.

Thanks for the contribution...and you have actually given a defintion...

=heart of America. But I think Cheverolet used that at one time...and I actually live in the heart of America...so, I don't know.

So, what we need here is CORRECT definitions. I figure if we can nail things like FAITH and GRACE then we should be able to get this one easy.

Your line of questioning does not produce TRUTH.

1. Which version became popular...country or rock?

2. Why did the song get made into a rock song if country was the way to go?

Seriously, if some of the groups I listened to in the 70s released their same songs now, they'd be country and if some of the groups that top the country charts in recent years had recorded back in the 70s, they might be rock...

Consider the following:

Lyin' Eyes or Tequila Sunrise by the Eagles
South City Midnite Lady by The Doobies
Bad Bad Leroy Brown or Rapid Roy by Jim Croce
Just about anything released by .38 Special, the Allman Bros. or ZZ Top

Compare it to some of the big hits from the likes of people like Garth Brooks, Shania Twain, etc... In fact, one of Garth's big hits was actually written by Billy Joel.

Some may say the difference might be pot in the 70s but that doesn't explain Willie Nelson!! LOL

You see Eddie you southerners can't recognize the TWANG.. because you have a blind ear to it.. lol

You don't ear the TWANG because your own TWANG drowns it out..lol kinda like not being able to hear a dog whistle..lol

Who says we can't hear a Dog Whistle...? We can also see Bigfoot..
Top that...

Here is another way to look at it.

Country can do a 30 min program like Porter Waggoner singing about drinking, dying, going out with your best friends wife, and then close the program off with the gospel song of the day. Show me a Rock show that can do that.

Everybody knows Rock can't Twang. It has to be shook rattled and rolled from the outside. Country only Twangs when it wants to. It is that free will aspect that seriously sets it aside

Are you any closer to seeing the light...??

That's my point Eddie..lol Country TWANGS and Rock doesn't!... I think the light is finally beginning to shine for ya buddy.. lol

..now I WANT MY BANANA!.....

I beg to differ, I have been to some awesome contemporary Christian rock shows! Many include altar calls!!

Check out the likes of Brian "Head" Welch who now tours promoting his book and his new band. Formerly of the band Korn, he turned his life over to Jesus and has never been the same but he is still one hardcore rocker...He just rocks for the original Rock these days! And he shares his personal testimony everywhere he goes...

Much of the difference these days between commercial rock and country has to do with marketing. It's all about the packaging and in what genre, the public will pay their hard earned dollars for a particular artist. And if a talent management company can score an artist who can be marketed as a crossover... then the profit doubles!

Just because you speak like a borderline Canadian, doesn't mean I have a southern accent!!! eh?

I do not have a twang except when I sing House of the Rising Sun which is a folk song dating back to early 1930s Appalachia. That song has bounced back and forth from country to rock - commercially recorded first by Roy Acuff in 1938 and then numerous times through out the years by various artists including Woody Guthrie (1941) Bob Dylan (1962), Joan Baez (1960), and most successfully by The Animals (1964).

The difference is if you play country music backwards: Your dog comes alive again, the wife comes back, the beer bottle is full and your truck runs.
ah...but when you play the Beatles Rock music backwards Satan comes to visit you right out of the Woofer....or....at least, that is what some swahili disc jockey somewhere might have thought i might say he said....*S*

Actually country has 3 primary roots...one of which comes from Appalachia....where the Germans and Scots and so forth settled in the mountains....another had to do with the southern Bible belt....and another had to do with the cajun influences of Louisiana (banjo)...and much more could be said, but hey...we can't solve all of the world's problems in one paragraph.

So, the difference in Rock and Country is ______________________________?????????????????????????

If you would've asked this question 30 years ago, I could answer this one easily. Now all I can tell you is.....

What's the difference in Garth Brooks and the Rolling Stones in singing wild horses?

I'm thankful this is not a prerequisite to get into Heaven. What a mess we would be in. LOL Ryan
