Just in case you don't know who Will Graham is, he is Billy Graham's grandson.....and he preached at my church tonight.
I liked his style....simple and to the point. When he did the altar call, he emphasized the point of relationship with Jesus.....not just being saved but having a relationship. There was no big hoopla as some evangelists do....just a straightforward message with that very important truth. Coz let's face it....relationship with God is the foundation from which all else flows!
The most exciting moment for me was when he did the altar call. At first no one came forward. I started praying in the spirit, pleading with God to save His people......as I'm sure many were doing....and when I opened my eyes, there was a long line of people who went forward......including my mum!!! My mum is saved but her relationship with God has been flagging some. She told me later, that it was like God carried her forward.....PRAISE GOD!!!
You know what else? It was sooooooo cool hearing that Southern twang again! It made me very nostalgic for North Carolina...makes me want to go back!! I wanted to yell out to Will that...."hey I drove on Billy Graham Boulevard"!!!!
And had I known he was coming......I would have emailed and asked him to bring me some biscuits...done the Southern way! Lots of gravy....no grits please!!!!
Oh and you know what he told us....Billy Graham turns 90 next month and so we should go to his website and email a birthday greeting....and for the very first time in his life....and also the very last.....he is going to send an email...thanking people for their wishes! That was kind of cute!!
It was pretty cool catching up with a lot of old friends at church...I'm sure they think I've backslidden coz I haven't been for so long!! And I now go to a different service so tonight I got to see all the old gang!! But they reckon I haven't changed....still a nut....crikey!!! Go figure!!!

Thanks for sharing that....I remember going to see Billy Graham as a teenager; I was amazed at how many people went down during the altar call...that man is surely anointed of God. His daughter Ann Graham Lotz is pretty neat as well...I used to live in Raleigh, NC, as did she and went to a few bible studies that she led. Neat to hear that his grandson is continuing the call.
So you were in North Carolina? I lived there for years and am trying to find employment and move back there...still have 2 brothers there...one in Charlotte and one in Raleigh. My folks are also planning on going back; if our economy picks back up so we can sell our houses, that is. God will definitely need to make a way. Love biscuits and gravy, but my fondness is for those country ham biscuits and LOTS of grits (not the instant kind of course)...oh, and collard greens, iced tea, pig pickin' cake, NC barbecue...can't wait to get back there!

ms_warriorthingy replies on 10/4/2008 3:05 pm: I never got to see Billy Graham himself, Deena but last night there was a show of hands of people who had come to Christ through one of his visits here in Melbourne...1959 & 1969. There were a lot of hands! And the follow through effect is that those people have children and grandchildren who now follow the Lord. Will told us that his wife's parents came to the Lord through his grandfather's teaching...long before his wife was born. Perhaps if that had not happened, he may very well not be married to this woman...that's my own assumption by the way!!
I've noticed that someone has ticked the disagree box on your comment. What a pity that they had to be so sneaky and not say why? I wonder what their relationship is like with God? hmmmmmm makes you wonder huh?
As for NC, yup I was there for two months in 2006 and I loved it so much, I would love to live there! The people were just so beautiful and hospitable...good old Southern hospitality at it's best!
LOL I fell in love with biscuits!! I would have them for brekkie just about every day...with grape jelly and butter...oh yummy!!! My ex grew up in Raleigh, though I didn't get to visit there unfortunately. I tried grits with lots of butter and pepper but I could only handle it in small doses!! Oh and I fell in love with cinnamon rolls too!! But most of all I fell in love with the accent!! I do a good Southern accent by the way!!! |

Yup, once a chocolate nut, always a chocolate nut, spunky and funny, and sure lovin' the Lord a lot....that's you...a wonderful woman of God.
Thanks for sharing the information and also the joyous celebration of having fellowship and your mom rededciating her life. I always liked the son as much as the father. He used to be a rebel, but look what God's grace did with Him!!
Love ya girl. Celebrate HIM for all He has done for you.
Beth....I promise I will do the same....in between chomping on...eh...well...I found them in the left cupboard...eh...you did..eh...put them there for me? Right?
ms_warriorthingy replies on 10/4/2008 3:10 pm: Hey did I ever mention.......I love you to bits???? You are a beautiful friend, Beth.....always encouraging, not afraid to give me the hard word when I slip up....but always encouraging me to keep striving......yup you are a good friend.......almost.....coz there is of course the "C" issue...I think you and I will always lock horns...not to mention other body parts....like fists....teeth...to get to the first chocolate...but that's what makes our friendship so...shall I say....invigorating??
By the way darling, I just had to whip out to the store....bought myself a WHITE CHOCOLATE and blueberry scone....just couldn't resist! Want a bit? come and get it my girl! |

. Without Absolute Truth, there are only lies disguised as truth, if you know not the Absolute Truth and it is NOT within you, you will embrace a relative truth that fits your eternity, that is now presently before you.
Saying I am sorry is WORTHLESS without real repentance.
True or FALSE ?
Without a personal and intimate relationship with God, how can you ever realize the true identity and person of God?
Continue to be faithful, deliverance is near, obedience must be seen, be an unconditional blessing as He continues to bless you.
This time is short, serve Him well, serving all.

I didn't realize that he has a grandson who is carrying on his legacy! And the bit about your mom...how awesome is that??
All this talk about biscuits and grits and stuff....sure wish I had some here! Dooooooon't know about floridagal's 'pig pickin' cake' ...never heard of it but I don't know if I'd want some...
ms_warriorthingy replies on 10/4/2008 3:14 pm: Yeah I knew his son was doing stuff, but I didn't know his grandson was too. Yeah it is awesome! I bet Billy spends a lot of time thanking God for this legacy huh!
Crikey I don't know about Deena's 'pig pickin' cake either....I'm too afraid to ask!!! For all we know it could be made out of little piggies!!! I think the best thing about Southern cooking, is to eat now...ask questions later!! Not that a Southerner would even tell...they would just say "bless your heart daaaaaaaaaaarrrrhling!" |

Pen, that is so awesome! I would love to hear him. Speaking of biscuits and gravy. I was raised on that! Yummy! Whenever I would stay at my Grandmother's house - which was often. She would ask me (and my brothers and sister) what we wanted for breakfast. Every time we would say, "Biscuits and gravy!" Funny, even though she knew what we would say, she always asked anyway. I am glad you enjoyed your church so much. I too need to get back into going. But my biggest drawback (shame on me) is that I hate having to go alone. God bless you sister! Love you!

ms_warriorthingy replies on 10/4/2008 3:19 pm: I really liked him, PJ coz he was very simple and down to earth. There was no razzamatazz about him at all. And he didn't need to yell...like a lot of evangelists do!!
When you mention about going to church alone, I know a lot of people who feel the way you do. I felt that way for a time too once. Once I got involved with ministry, and it was because my ministry always was a visible one...singing, acting...people got to know me and I would never have to worry about sitting alone. But it shouldn't be like that...the church needs to grow a community spirit. I guess the only way to discover it is to try a few different churches...though that can get a little daunting too! I pray you find a good one, my friend! |

Sounds like it all that you expected. I didn't know about your mom being a Christian. It makes me long for just one family member to have to relate to that way. Now if you came and stayed in the Pacific Northwest for a spell, you would come to love our accents too. But I'm not sure we have accents here! At least I can't tell.

ms_warriorthingy replies on 10/4/2008 3:21 pm: My mum's been a Christian longer than I have, Jeff....she's just kind of become a little stagnated, as a lot of Christians do! I am so praying a new beginning for her, especially in these twilight years.
Careful Jeffy, I might just turn up there one day....I want to test out the space needle theory!! Love you my friend! |

So glad you had those blessings!! But about bisquits. I love them, but they put weight on ya like lickity split! I can't have white flour, white sugar, or anything processed. But I am not fat anymore woohoo! And the fibromalgia is alot less for flaring up. The white stuff tastes so goood tho. Guess I'll stick to my occasional chocolate. I loe "real" fudge. Again so glad for your blessings in the Lord!

ms_warriorthingy replies on 10/4/2008 4:03 pm: Thanks, Robin.....wow that's real sad that you can't have all that good stuff that is not real good at all LOL! I've been kind of looking at the food we eat....everything is so full of chemicals, it's really getting scary huh? I don't even know what the answers are anymore. GBU my friend! |

Hi Pen...I've never noticed that little "disagree" bar before...don't think my comment was controversial....I know! It was the pig pickin' cake!! Actually it is very good. Haven't had one in years but think I will make one soon. A pig pickin' is an outdoor barbecue...there are catering companies and restaurants that bring a meat truck and set up the barbecue...sometimes there is an actual cooked pig (don't like to see that...prefer my meat to not resemble what it came from). A pig pickin' cake is a dessert often served at pig pickin's. I would have to find my recipe but it is a yellow cake with a can of mandarin oranges whipped into the batter. It is frosted with Cool Whip or other whipped topping that has a package of instant vanilla pudding and crushed pineapple mixed into the Cool Whip. The cake needs to be refrigerated but really it is quite yummy!

ms_warriorthingy replies on 10/4/2008 10:36 pm: LOL of course.....it was the blinkin pig pickin cake!! Must have been a Northerner!! You know I am an honorary Southern woman, as well as being an honorary American....I think I would like to try that pig pickin cake! What's more, I think I would love to go to a pig pickin BBQ...but like you I don't think I would want to look at the poor pig! Actually I'm not that fussed on pork...perhaps it could be a beef BBQ! Either way...I'm feeling a little homesick for the USA! |

I posted the recipe for the pig pickin' cake today. You really should try it...guarantee you'll like it.
North Carolina BBQ is mostly pork and is made with a vinegar based sauce, rather than a tomato based sauce. And I have never heard of a cow pickin' or a cow pickin' cake. Sounds like you might like Texas BBQ, though...it is usually beef with a tomato based sauce. Many states have their own style of barbecue; in South Carolina it is a mustard based sauce. Actually I like all of it...but North Carolinians are pretty particular about their pork barbecue!

Well if you just worked out then you owe it to yourself, right? And if you use lite or fat free whipped topping it cuts the calories...oh and it has pineapple and mandarin oranges in it, so guess it really counts as a fruit.
