Well, ladies, it's autumn (at least here in the U.S.) and I am thinking it's time for a ladies' luncheon. It's time to gather, dish, and affirm one another. The theme will be affirmation...in keeping with this theme bring a dish to share that is native to one of our BC lady's state or country, name the person you are honoring, and give a few words of affirmation for that person. We are all here for each other and some of us have had some hard knocks lately. Dress is casual; let's just all get together, kick back and relax. Perhaps you have some suggestions for fun afterward. I have a friend who lives nearby that owns Pacifino horses and would let us ride; the countryside out here is beautiful and I am thinking a sunset ride would be awesome...I have some champagne for toasting afterward.
I will start with honoring Pen, Mswarriorthingy...a woman of sensitivity yet with an inner strength that I am not sure even she realizes. It is evident in sharing with her that her heart is wholly His; all she does and aspires to is based in love and gratitude for our Father. She is unafraid to share from the depths of her heart if she feels it will help another. And, of course, we all love and appreciate that beautiful sense of humor; I can always count on Pen for a good laugh...her posts always lift my spirits. She is a woman of great worth...Proverbs 31:10 "She is worth far more than rubies"...I am honored to know her.
For my recipe I am making "Artichoke and White Bean Ravioli with Fresh Green Pea Sauce" from a food down under website in honor of Pen's Aussie roots (though she is, of course, an honorary American). I will post the recipe separately to save space. I have frozen artichoke hearts and several cans of white beans in the pantry; I have a ravioli cutter I have not used so figured this would be a good time to try it out.
All are invited...I'll be keeping an eye out for you.

Thanks for the invite! What a nice idea.
I'll honor... Does it have to be just one?? I'll honor Sophie1101 [ but it was SO HARD to not mention onelady7, spbpt, Priceless Joy, TimelessWhispers, Glo and MANY OTHER great ladies!!! ].
Sophie1101 is fun - always seeing how simple things can make some else smile, real - not caught up in worldly trivialities, keeps her eyes on Jesus - holding His word in reverence, and... is a dog lover!
For a dish, also in honor of my honoree, I'll bring live lobster and steam them on the spot. [ Don't worry, I drop them in head first so as to minimize their momentary discomfort. ] I'll season the steaming water with peppercorns, bay leaves and a splash of vinegar. For dipping, not only will I have melted real butter [ one part salted butter to one part unsalted for perfect seasoning ] but my own concoction of wine, wine vinegar and a splash of soy sauce for those who want to dine almost fat-free. [ Can you tell I love Asian food and used to live in Maine???!!! ] But y'all need to be ready, the steaming only takes about 10 minutes.
Whose bringing the steamers??

PS If you don't want your lobster legs, can I have them??

Hi Deena!
What an excellent idea! Thanks for the invite. I'd love to honor at least 20 of my fav bloggers, but since I can choose only one, I'll honor the Hostess, Florida Gal. Her blogs always leave me informed with something I didn't know, as she's so knowledgeable. She has an obvious heart for God, her fruit is evident for all to see. Anytime I get the opportunity to see her beautiful smile on my blog, I know that her comment will bless me, as her wisdom surpasses even her beauty. Since we both share Florida, I feel compelled to prepare a few of the state's delicacies. For an appetizer, we'll begin with stone crab claws, sweet and rich, dipped in hot butter with garlic. The main course will be fresh frog legs, dusted lightly in flour and pan-fried, but stand back, as they jump when cooked. The side dish is swamp cabbage, stir fried with fresh green beans and onions, with some bacon bits. For dessert, along with the champagne, we'll have huge Florida strawberries, that we will immerse in a melted chocolate fondue. After the meal, we should all take the fast boat to Key West for a most breathtaking sunset. What more could a woman want? lol Thank you to the most gracious Hostess with the Mostest!

floridagal2 replies on 10/7/2008 1:20 pm: Terrie, thank you...I am speechless. Well speechless for a moment anyway; those that know me know that is a rarity! Your words bless me immensely...I don't know what to say except I am humbled...thank you.
The food sounds great..I love stone crab claws and of course Florida strawberries with chocolate fondue...yummm!!! Now I have never tried frog legs or swamp cabbage..but I am in an adventurous mood so what the heck. As long as the frog legs aren't jumping when they're on my plate!
Sunset in Key West...awesome!!! All on board.....!!! |

Terrie's Florida strawberries with chocolate fondue reminded me of another dessert I'll have available...or actually I might serve it as people are arriving; that way we can all take our time and have a little something as lunch is being prepared...I have a feeling this is going to turn into an all day event! Actually the last time I prepared Strawberries with Cardamom Sugar was for a ladies' brunch a couple of days after 9/11...we were all feeling the need to be one another. I rented the move "Life is Beautiful" and I don't think, under the circumstances, there was a dry eye while watching. But that's okay, that's what we are all here for...for each other. Guests started arriving at 10:00, a few left in the afternoon, but then came back...folks ended up staying into the evening; then we all got into the car and drove to a quaint little town nearby for dinner. A truly memorable time....but I expect our day here to surpass that. So please leave your schedules open-ended...I envision an amazing day of fellowship, love, and laughter.
Oh, and the little apertif? Well, it's easy. You clean and soak some strawberries in Grand Marnier for 30 minutes...then you roll the strawberries in a mixture of ground cardamom and sugar; I like to serve them in a champagne glass. I might have to borrow some champagne glasses though as we'll also have the real thing. We can do Mimosas and Kir Royales for those that prefer that to plain champagne.

Hey, Deena....this is so cool!! A lovely idea. Thanks for this invite!!! Like everyone else it's hard to pick just one.....but I'll do it!!! Hmmm, let's see......I'll honor.....Indescribeable!!!
Sheri is someone who has an incredible heart. Is filled with an ability to convey her experience and wisdom to master complex situations and problems in a simplistic manner. She puts everyone at ease, is kind, friendly, and inviting. Aside from also being a very giving and sharing person, is incredibly intelligent with an awesome understanding of computers and creative blog design! She's one to be admired!!
So the platter I'd like to share honoring her State of Florida is.......KEY LIME MUSTARD GINGER GRILLED CHICKEN, marinaded then grilled. With LIME CILANTRO VINAIGRETTE GRILLED POTATOES, and a side of KEY LIME ONIONS AND PEPPERS!!
I've made plenty so there will be leftovers.
floridagal2 replies on 10/7/2008 4:38 pm: Thanks for sharing all that about Sheri...I did not know about her computer skills; good thing to know, huh? Yes, I agree that her posts are inspiring.

Hey Deena - don't we all need some affirmation - what a wonderful idea.
Gosh - there are so many wonderful ladies here and some on my list have already been honored - I think I will honor Beth (Quiet Walker)first - she's a good friend - she's an awesome WOG - she has strength beyond her knowledge - and love overflows from her - she's a woman of honor and wisdom - she's a prayer warrior - she has a beautiful heart and a beautiful smile - and she is real and I just love her - she is wonderful.
And I'd like to honor Rhonda (heartforedjehu) - who is also a wonderful WOG - full of knowledge and love and wisdom and she just shines around here at BC - always helpful and with a good word and a willing heart - always interceeding for the saints - she never gives up - ever!! What a wonderful sister in Christ!!
And Terrie (racefan) - when I think of her I think of pit bull - a gorgeous pit bull that is - tenacious - full of the Word and it overflows to us - and wisdom and love beyond understanding - a very giving WOG as seen at the 4th of July BC party and many other times also - and she gives great hugs (((((Terrie))))))!!
There are so many others too - there's Maryann and Elizabeth and Janice and Glo and there's Lisa and there's Pen and Susan and Deena and PJ and Joy and Pat (American Dreamer) and Pat (Appreciate) and Faith and Sheri and Sophie and Hellen and Netty and Ginny and so many new ones and I just can't remember all the names right now!!
And being from the deep south - I guess that means I will be cooking up a huge pot of brown beans (pinto beans for you yankees) with ham hocks and onions cooked in it and also a dish of fresh diced onions to sprinkle on top - also a big pan of corn bread and a gallon jug of sweet tea (of course) to drink. And for dessert a big banana pudding with real meringue on it baked slightly brown on top in the oven. Be sure to wear your stretchy pants - no dieting today!!
It's raining right now here - so we might want to veg out in the living room and watch some great movies and have some popcorn - my movie suggestions would be "Bucket List" or "August Rush" or "Shall We Dance" or "The Notebook" or other suggestions will be noted.
What a blessing to get together like this!!
Can we all join hands and pray together while there is this many of us gathered in one place!!

Yes, Marilyn, lead the blessing please...I am so glad so many can attend; we just might have to make a weekend out of it...we'll certainly have plenty of food! Beans, onion, and cornbread...now that is a meal I've had with my late Kentucky grandmother many a time. And the sweet tea of course. And you are bringing my favorite...a banana pudding made the right way...none of that instant pudding stuff!
I love the Bucket List...but all of those are good movie choices. And if folks want to hang out all weekend...well we've got lots of time; I've never been in the company of this many wonderful, godly women at once. I am thinking we won't want this time to end!

There are so many women on here, each unique and each bringing their own blend of humanity, compassion, creativity, humor, and spiritual insight to the blogs. I love Pat's pictures of her kitty and how she can go from pure lightheartedness and humor in her posts to straight on facing some serious issues. Helen is a woman whose utter devotion to God in the midst of some serious physical trials was evident to all...a woman of inner strength, whose foundation is firmly set in God. She displays a caring and compassionate heart and I share a kindred spirit with her in her love for missions. The depth of character and spiritual maturity are displayed in her posts and responses. Yet, what a sense of humor! Susan (ReadingandRoses)...what a heart for helping and ministering to others with such openness and brokenness. Always learning, always striving to know Him better. A lover of poetry and prose...I appreciate her sharing both on here. Chocnroses...I have enjoyed your posts...a touch of humor balanced with realism and hopeful expectation; you are a great addition to the blogs. Oceanblue..well we can always count on her to keep things alive with her polls and various social events! Humor is a wonderful asset. Yet your close walk with God is clear to all. Marilyn...hers were the first posts I read when I started visiting the blogs...wow, her writing...spiritual depth tinged with lighthearted humor..reminds me of another favorite of mine, Charles Swindoll. I try to always read her posts. Terrie, you are a pretty amazing woman yourself. What a heart after God! Great teaching...and I love the straightforward way you write...you can tell it is from the heart. And I am so glad you and Alan have connected in the way that you have...two like-minded spirits have a way of finding each other. Fieldlillies...I am looking forward to meeting you when I get to NC...someone who loves the arts and music...we have a lot in common; I always know your responses and posts will be full of godly wisdom. Glo is another great NC woman I hope to meet as well...wow, she should write a book...really! And so should Paula (imadeit3)....great writing comes from the depths of one's emotions and spirit...I love how she shares her journey through her writing...so poetic, so open. And growing day by day from strength to strength. Timelesswhispers (maryanne) is another beautiful, poetic soul...and another whose every post I try to make time to read. Her words stir emotion and hopefulness and images of beauty....God given talent, indeed. Ginny, a new friend...she has shared her difficult journey and shares now of her found love with Brad...it is an example, an encouragement to all. There isn't a woman on here that I could not write something good about...I see in each one a unique God given gift...keep on blogging, all are needed and all are appreciated.

Well Deena - lots of good food - lots of good activities - lots of good folks - I do think it will be a whole weekend thing - so much to do and see and so little time now.
I would like to honor our Wendy (Northernlass) - she's a real piece of God's handiwork in action - so funny - so cute - so inquisitive - wanting to know everything NOW - she's such a beautiful woman of God - so fresh - so real.
And Pat (American Dreamer) - I appreciate her - she has grown so much over the time she has come here - growing wise and compassionate with each day - such a passion for the things of God and loves her new little companion Pooderman.
And Janice (Hiz4Ever) so full of God and overflowing - so concerned for our nation and interceeding all the time - always has a Word in season and such great love.
And I just love Joybells - she's a big nut - and she's sweet and such a lovely giving person - I love her bus driving stories - she's such a blessing.
And Gracie Charie - who is married to Bill (Dundeal) - with a new little baby - little Billy - she's awesome and helping Bill to take care of his 2 grandchildren as well - that says a lot about Gracie who loves God with all her heart.
And you asked me to start the blessing as we all gather together here - so: Heavenly Father - I just praise Your Holy Name - only You could gather together so many beautiful and wonderful women in a time of fellowship such as this - bless our time together Lord - bless them as they travel through this life You have given us - You know each need Lord and I ask You touch each woman of God here at the very base of their need and grant them grace and bless their hearts with healing and comfort. Thank You Lord for bringing us together in such a time as this. Especially bless Deena for giving her the thoughts of putting this together. And we bless You Lord for You are worthy of ALL our praises and ALL our glory - in Jesus Name - AMEN!!
How can we NOT praise Him - Marilyn
floridagal2 replies on 10/8/2008 5:26 pm: Marilyn, what a beautiful prayer...I think we are all in agreement with that sentiment, and also all grateful to God for allowing us this opportunity. I was thinking just a bit ago after reading someone's post that I really hoped that one day in heaven I would be able to meet that person and sit and talk about the deep things of God. Do you realize we will actually have an eternity to do just that! And so much more! Like the Michael W. Smith song "Friends are friends FOREVER if the Lord's the Lord of them." That is the truth! I am having such an awesome time...it will be hard to see it draw to a close...but that FOREVER friends thing...well it will keep us going. |

Thanks Deena for the invite...what a beautiful place to visit...affirmation is a wonderful thing to do...we mostly can only see or perceive what we can but the Lord can see so much more in each of us and the potential within...when we are ready tooo to be the clay under the Potter's hand...He has already got a beautiful masterpiece in mind...He always want to bring out the best in us...He sees the beauty and the potential...amen!
First of all I would like to affirm all ladies at BC...they come in all 'arrays' ...everyone is different yet unique...and each one has something special to contribute...God has always given me something to chew over, think about, ponder and wonder, learn and be convicted, confession and repentance, uplifted and encouraged for all the posts that I've come across and read...not necessary commented to... We've all come to BC for different reasons ...yes God knows what our real needs are and many a times He's spoken to me via the blogs here...giving thanks to Him indeed!
So may I pass ...in choosing one...its a 'toughie'!
I however will bring a cyberspace dish...lol...its easier...its easier I'm no a la carte cook...just home cooking... A spicy chicken wings dish A tuna pasta dish served up with capsicum, mayo, sweet corn, zuchinni and celery (healthy eating?) and a lovely salad sprinkled with balsalmic vinegar, fruity pure virgin olive oil >>>> the works
And for fun >>>> going riding sounds great, so is dancing...how about karaoke, and board games...anyone like scrabbles!!!! A good movie sounds great tooooo...hmmm will have to get onto the 'Bucket List'...I haven't seen it yet
Thanks Marilyn for your lovely prayer here...and thanks Deena for your invite again...apologies if I've stayed awhile (enjoying the lunch time here) and taken up much space? God's rich abundant blessings to all...
Man can make many plans...BUT it is the Lord who will direct his paths....
floridagal2 replies on 10/9/2008 4:00 am: Thanks so much for coming...no you've not overstayed...we all decided to hang out here all weekend! I am in total agreement with your comments...amazing ladies, all! I am encouraged, inspired, comforted, educated, and drawn closer to Him through all of you.
Board games...I love scrabble! How about a game of charades...can you imagine that with our group?! The Bucket List...wonderful, wonderful movie...great to watch with someone you care about...so why don't we watch it this weekend while we're all together.
Balsamic vinecar and vinegar oil is my favorite salad dressing! Sometimes I just use the vinegar by itself...and I cook everything with it...try yellow squash and onions sauteed with it...it's wonderful. By the way what is capsicum? |

Crikey......I was trying to figure out who to honour....it's so hard when you love EVERYONE! So I thought and I thought....and I decided to honour Lila (the yaya one!) coz she is such a beautiful person. She doesn't blog very often and a lot of the time she feels kind of invisible......so I think she needs lifting up.
I'm going to make an Aussie pavlova...the base is meringue with lots of cream on top and I think I might use mango as a decoration. That blinkin Lila will want to eat the whole thing in one hit!!
This is so special, Deena.....I love getting together like this with the chickies...and I bet those blokes are wishing they were invited!!!
Maybe we can throw them the leftovers.....if there are any!!!

Pavlova, oh my gosh, I LOVE those...had it for the first time while living in NZ; my Mom even made one for my birthday once I returned to the states. Mango sounds wonderful...but hey...do you have any kiwi?
And if you help in the kitchen well maybe that lobster just might not even make it to the table...no one will know, we'll hide in the pantry and snarf it!
Yes, this is a girls' only event...but after the prom you know we've all got to get together and dish about our dates! Leftovers....what leftovers!! |

PS If you don't want your lobster legs, can I have them??
.........wonders if she sits under the table, she might be able to slowly sneak her hand up and grab a lobster tail......

Aww, thanks for you kind words up there, Deena! I'd say the same about you. There is so much depth and insight in the things that you blog and in your responses to others.
I'd like to honor Izzy and Frazz and Corrie (OverCaff)...
Izzy: Continues to seek God's face in the midst of her struggles and finds Him there...and she has such a desire to pass on what she learns to others in similar situations! Plus she throws a mean party! Can't wait to go that pub near her place!
Frazz: So REAL and down to earth...and fun. She's not here as much as she used to be...but I've watched her struggle honestly with God and not be afraid to ask honest questions...no 'spiritualizing' there! And crazy fun, too!
Corrie: (Just talked to her on the phone last weekend btw and they had just finally gotten their electricity back at home...still in huge disarray at the office so very tiring...and working lots of overtime.) Great writer...She has such a wonderful way with words...depth, humour, insight, a heart for God. And a good photographer. I've become an honorary aunt to her son since I look more like his other aunt than his gramma does...heehee!
Oh, and I've brought salsa (a new recipe that I just got from my cousin...and of course yummy totopos to go with it.
The salsa recipe:
cilantro 2 mandanas...er handfuls Jalapenos 2 Onions As desired...cut into chunks
Blend in blender...slowly adding water to moisten. LENTATMENTE...SLOWLY also add 1 Cup of oil. Then add 2 whole prebeaten eggs. Sal al gusto (salt as needed.)
floridagal2 replies on 10/9/2008 5:26 pm: Aha...jalapenos, baby!! I love 'em!! I can eat them until my nose runs, my eyes water, and stomach hurts! So...are there any tomatoes in that salsa? |

floridagal2 replies on 10/9/2008 10:05 pm: I knew something was missing here...you!!
Yep, got kiwi! Why don't I just make two...one kiwi, one mango!! (crikey I wish I was this good in real life!!! ) As for the lobster....oh yeah I will DEFINITELY help in the kitchen!! And if anyone wonders where the lobster got to....we'll say Dunky took it!!!

Hi ladies - May I come in and sit quietly for a bit and have some tea? You are all a wonderful blessing to me and I appreciate your encouragement and friendship. I'll whip up a batch of warm mini scones served with thick whipped cream and raspberry ham.

floridagal2 replies on 10/9/2008 5:22 pm: Hi Susan...come on in and sit by the fire for awhile...of course we'll have some freshly brewed tea; I was thinking also of having some hot spiced apple cider ready as well...those scones sound great; nothing like comfort food, good friends, and a little support and love to warm the heart. |

Nope, no tomatoes! The tomatoe one is the stereotypical one that non-Mexican's make. But there are so many variations in Mex. depending on the area one lives in.
floridagal2 replies on 10/10/2008 3:59 am: Well I did have some green and also brownish salsas on my scrambled eggs in Mexico...loved them...just couldn't figure our what was in them! I love jalapenos and cilantro so will definitely save your recipe and make it...I am having a fall wine tasting party (with Traveling Vineyard again) at my house November 8 to honor a nurse practitioner I work with that is leaving...think I will serve it then. Wish you lived closer; by the way tell Susan when you see her that she is missed. Hope all is getting better. |

Capsicum would be red or green pepper? Is that what you would call it, Deena? Have a great weekend everyone!
