It's become the "buzz-phrase" of 2008:
CREDIT CRUNCH
People are running right and left in a panic because of the financial problems that seem to have destroyed the whole world in a matter of weeks. Funny how everything was ticketyboo at the start of the year but because some people have been too greedy suddenly we are all in a tiswas!
Sadly even Christians, who should know better, are falling prey to this 'disaster' mentality. Why should we know better? Here are a few good reasons:
1. WE SHOULD NEVER HAVE PUT OUR TRUST IN MONEY TO START WITH "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal....for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" {Matthew 6v19, 21}
2. WE SHOULD NOT HAVE ALLOWED MONEY TO CONTROL US THIS WAY "You cannot serve God and MONEY" {Matthew 6v24}
3. IF WE ARE FOCUSSED ON OBEDIENCE TO GOD WE WILL BE OK "The pagans run after all these things {food, drink, clothes etc}, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well" {sorry Julie! } {Matthew 6v32-33}
4. NOT DOING WHAT JESUS SAYS IS A SURE RECIPE FOR DISASTER "Everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain came, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash" {Matthew 7v26-27}
So I repeat:
WHAT IS ALL THE FUSS ABOUT?
Happy Friday! Peter
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth"
2 Timothy 2 v 15

Having my daughter's college fund reduced by over half zero due to the run on the market doesn't feel real good. But, my mindset is as you described - why worry about what I can't control? God will provide.

I don't understand it either, Peter. One could have mega amounts in shares....and die tomorrow. Then what will it be worth? Crazy!

Great post Peter. I only know that if I lose it all-not that I have all that much by American standards(although I consider myself rich), it would be painful in the here and now, but I still will have the true riches that can't be taken away. We need to learn from our brothers and sisters who live in less priviledged places and those who have lived before our time who gave it all up to gain Christ.

Now despite all my comment says, I must admit that this would be a REAL crisis.

I'm marveling that companies need credit to pay their employees. I run my [ tiny ] business without a lick of borrowing. The only loan I carry is on my house. My car is second hand, old and paid for completely up front.
Your list of scriptures is great! Nothing can separate me from the love of God - I'm satisfied!

Hi Peter,
Yes, this is a dilemma that will cause many worries for some. Hope to see some turn to the Lord instead of giving up hope. I have always saw Jesus as my provider so this is not a BIG concern for me. Although, I did stop my 401K contributions for now. The size of my account was continually going negative sooo... I'll start it back up when that trend is turned around. That is the extent of this affecting me. God is the only thing that is the same Yesterday, Today and Forever. You can count on every thing else changing.
Blessings, Pam

Thanks to everybody for your contributions. I'm pleasantly surprised that for once all the contributors are agreeing with me! {Apart from the one anti-response that was so vitriolic I had to use my 'delete' and 'ban' options}.
I must confess that it is in a way quite easy for me to post these verses at the moment - when you have very little to lose in the financial sense there is very little alternative to trusting God! But there again, maybe the process I have gone through, of God removing all the other things from my life that I may be tempted to depend on, gives us the clue to why God is allowing these worldwide financial events to take place.
Keep the contributions coming.
Blessings Peter

Hi there BB. The person who posted it is well known for posting aggressively worded comments. The precise contents are unimportant, suffice to say they had nothing to do with this blog, contravened my heading requirements, and were consequently despatched down the plughole!

Quoting holliegirl3: I keep copies of the places I visit online. Here is the post that went missing due to "hatred, viterol and not on topic." I'm not sure why it is missing other than the truth it states is indeed stated too strongly- but it is truth none the less. If people had followed Jesus- none of this would be happening in todays world. Too bad Gordy can't tone things down a bit- since this post does in fact belong here. He did speak the truth- and Noah235 misrepresented what Gordy505 had indeed posted in reply about Jesus and why things are the way they are today.
Noah235 replies: The reason the post 'went missing' is that I deleted it!!
I deleted it because he accused me of 'posting trash' and being a 'Paul following hypocrite'. I placed a warning at the heading of mu blog for a very good reason: I DO NOT WANT THIS SORT OF JUNK ON MY BLOG!! It most certainly does NOT belong here, and I did NOT misrepresent what he said.
I have therefore deleted your comment which quoted it. Please do NOT try to repost it or you also will be banned.
