A thought struck me today. I am fed up of hearing people from outside of Christianity tell us we are exclusive, arrogant, we think we are better than anyone else and that's why we're going to heaven and others aren't.
How long are we going to let them get away with this slander? Yes there is only one way into the kingdom, and that is through Jesus Christ, but that way is open to everyone equally without exception. Yes the gate and road to life are narrow but the gate is open to everyone who wishes to walk through it. So far from being exclusive, Christianity is actually the most INCLUSIVE faith on the face of the earth.
Just read the gospels. Jesus is always reaching out to those who are cast out of society and/or regarded as inferior. He was "accused" of being the friend of tax collectors, prostitutes and sinners. I call that a badge of glory not a badge of shame myself! He healed lepers who no-one else would associate with or even touch, and he forgave the woman caught in adultery when everyone else wanted to stone her. He went to eat at the house of Zacchaeus when his tax fiddles had made him universally hated. Although Jesus clearly saw his mission as being to "the house of Israel" he said he had "other sheep who are not of this sheepfold" and on at least one occasion exorcised the daughter of a Gentile mother. And to those who say Christianity is a male dominated faith, just look at the number of women that Jesus ministered to - as well as the woman caught in adultery there were Mary and Martha, the woman at the well, the woman who washed his feet with her hair etc etc.
Maybe the criticism is valid if we are like some of the early disciples. Peter had to be reminded in a vision that the gospel was open to the Gentiles. Paul had to be knocked off his horse {is this the origin of "knock off ones high horse"?} before he abandoned his attitude of superiority as a Jew and a Pharisee. James and John thought so highly of themselves that they thought they deserved the two top seats at the expense of the other disciples. How many of us are like Andrew who befriended a young boy and was thus able to provide the loaves and fishes for Jesus to perform one of his greatest miracles?
Let us take back the moral high ground from those who would sneer of the 'narrow mindedness' of Christians. Yes, sin must be repented of. Yes, those following other religions must abandon them and turn to Jesus alone. But the doors of Christianity are open wide to all who will come. Let us shout this from the rooftops and stop allowing Satan's minions to spread the lie of Christian smug superiority without opposition.
"There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus" {Galatians 3v28}
Well that's got that off my chest - at least for now!

"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth"

Why would you be fed up with their attitude Noah? isn't it to be expected. As Christians, The Lord did not say that we would have it easy in this life. Your focus needs to be on God and not on the people who attack or ridicule. The best way that you can witness to them is to be gracious and to show God working in your life. The enemy cannot attack and affect a man or woman who stays close to the Lord in all that they do.
I know it is hard at times but I guarantee you, if you praise God and pray, then these name callers will have no affect on You. God is greater than anything of this world.
God bless
Noah235 replies on 9/24/2008 10:07 am: Thanks Izzy. It isn't that I am bothered about it from a personal point of view - indeed I do expect it from hostile unbelievers. However I'm concerned that we are losing the argument among uncommitted non-believers. I agree we need to be gracious and full of Christ, but I also think we need to be more ready to expose the double standards of those that accuse us of intolerance yet are clearly not prepared to tolerate OUR view.
Thanks for contributing. Blessings Peter |

Excellent post Peter! And I heartily agree. I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ Jesus and have no problem saying "This is the Way". And it is indeed 100% inclusive to all who choose to accept the free gift of salvation! I'm inspired and fired up after reading your post!

Yeah but honestly, Noah, the New Age movement, the United Nations, and all the Churches who are joined to the Ecumenical Movement are turning against Christian Fundamentalists who refuse to be "inclusive" and join with their "Unity" Movement.
What Im saying is many many Christians have that very same slanderous attitude towards other Christians who refuse to unite with Pagan doctrine. They claim those who refuse to unite are "Arrogant" and all the same charges are leveled against them, in fact, they will finally not be allowed to buy and sell because of it.
I have these quotes in writing. "Separation" is a four letter word to them. "Come out and be ye separate and I will receive you" means nothing to them. And if you refuse to join with the United Nations, New Age Spiritualism and all the "Christian Churches" who have united with them in this "One World Government and Religion" then you are branded as "TroubleMakers" just as Elijah was.
Jesus is my Saviour, I shall not be moved.
Noah235 replies on 9/24/2008 10:23 am: Hi Claudia. Yes I agree with what you are saying here. I think it is right that all true Christians refuse to endorse this mish-mash which is becoming the One World Religion. That is because the exclusive claim of Christ as the only way to God is being ignored. As far as that is concerned, I will regard it as a compliment if they brand me as a "troublemaker". Another aspect of that by the way is that it will eventually become illegal to try to persuade people to change their religion {even before it becomes just one religion anyway}. We need to make the point that, although Jesus is the only way in, the door is still open to anyone without exception on precisely the same "terms" that we got in. We must be united with all who geneuinely respond to Christ's claims in this way.

Noah235 replies on 9/24/2008 10:12 am: Hi Robin. Yes I think the church would grow exponentially if more people understood that the Jesus we worship is the one {the ONLY one} with the answer to whatever their problem is - and he's great!

Show me the way Sweet JESUS. Lead and i Will follow.
Noah235 replies on 9/24/2008 10:16 am: Hi Wendy. As I said to Izzy, I'm not troubled about it from a personal point of view, but from the point of view that we are failing to address a lie that is being put around that is preventing people from coming to Christ.
You might be interested to know that this blog will form the basis of one of the chapters in my second book - this bit is all about Jesus the "Friend". Probably less than 10 years to publication

I'm wondering, Peter, if those accusations aren't given to the Christian community because of how certain Christians have treated them. It's just a hop skip to lump all Christians together after a bad experience.
...and we have to admit that if we were arrogant before we got saved, we could very well be arrogant after we're saved, which would mean it's the person and not Christianity that offends.

Noah235 replies on 9/24/2008 9:15 pm: You may very well be right. I read and occasionally contribute to other blogs which include a wide variety of views, and the strength of the hatred that is expressed against Christians is quite frightening at times. Yes we are sometimes the authors of our own misfortune but I think there is also an element of Satanic activity which is attempting to discredit us and slander the name of Jesus.

I've had a bad taste in my mouth towards one church because one arrogently offended, and everyone in their church "family" jumped in to sanctify the offender, which left me on the outside looking in with a very bad taste in my mouth, and yes they were arrogant in their bonding in Christ. And I was a Christian.

Hello Peter! IF the Holy Spirit doesn't really do the "talk" and the "actions", the Christian message (from a "religious human" - even devoted and faithful), would just sound like a bunch of rules on the same level with other religious systems...
Yesterday, browsing some of my old posts, I noticed how I earlier used to emphasize more the importance of the Holy Spirit, both for our inner and outer attainments.
Once said, it's not "always said". Also on BC, people come and go. New people come in, subjects are repeated in waves... cyclically... like Israel's ca. 40 years' conducting helter-skelter.
Hence, things must be repeated and repeated!
The Paradoxical Goal: Mind-Spirit in symbiosis, yes, BUT the former must be subordinate to the latter!
In simple words: One does not have "to try to be" good, one HAS TO BECOME/BE GOOD!
Three cents for this one!! I'll send an invoice! LOL! _______________

Btw, what where you doing in my dream last night?? LOL! Can't remember what it was about, and rarely I've been able to recognize the persons... But here I'm sure it was you, and we were standing and talking... somewhere like an art gallery or similar...
Were you there?
Noah235 replies on 9/25/2008 2:09 pm: I can't think how to respond to this, BB. For once I'm speechless! Except to say that I'm not really an art gallery person so it must have been my doppelganger in your dream not me!
Would be quite happy to meet you and have a chat sometime though. Will have to think about how to respond to your "three cents" post and will get back later.
