| HOW CAN AN ATHEIST BE A FREETHINKER? |

It always strikes me as ironic that atheists describe themselves as "freethinkers", which is an indirect insult to religious people, especially Christians, who are thought of as being 'brainwashed' and unable to think for themselves.
If God did not exist, then we would all be nothing but collections of atoms that have no option but to move in accordance with scientific laws. Under this scenario our thoughts are not in fact real but illusions which reflect the motion of those atoms which make up our brains. In other words, if atheism is correct then we have no freedom whatsoever to think what we want - our thoughts are predetermined by the laws of science!
Christians are made in God's image, and one of the aspects of that image is the ability to think for ourselves that God has clearly given to us. So we are the ones who ought to claim the title of "free thinkers". The fact that we CAN think freely is a VERY strong piece of evidence of God's existence.

I wonder if atheists realise....they are brainwashed by one who stops them from thinking freely! And I wonder if atheists realise they are not even really free! Bears thinking about huh!

I believe it goes much further than just a collection of atoms. If God did not exist there would be no atoms, no space, no time.
I have never met a true atheist that had less faith or was more closed minded then we theists. For to be absolutely positivity sure there is no God you have to have a tremendous amount of faith. To not accept the possibility there maybe a God is the ultimate in closed mindedness.
I think you can be intellectually honest and hold an agnostic position. But to be a true atheist is to be close minded in the extreme.
Noah235 replies on 9/13/2008 1:32 pm: I quite agree that you have to have an enormous amount of faith to be an atheist. We Christians believe that the universe was created by an omnipotent God, and that takes faith. But to believe it was created by nothing or created itself out of nothing requires faith in an altogether different league.
Of course being intellectually honest won't help anyone on judgement day, which is why we need to keep persevering with the impossible task of getting folks to change their minds.
Thanks for your comment.

I know people on both sides of the realm intimately!..Trust Me..Christians are a thousand times smarter..intelligently, financially, and Lovingly, Etc....Let them have their dillusions.
Noah235 replies on 9/13/2008 1:34 pm: I quite agree. Before responding to these posts I was just reading a blogpage on my Broadband on the subject "Can you believe in God AND evolution?" The number of completely ridiculous objections that non-believers have to the Bible is quite astonishing.

Has ThePariah Banned You?
On that post yesterday I wrote a new one and sort of gave a "testimony" and I think it really bothred him, he deleted it then shut down all his blogs and said he delcares us all as equals, "equally stupid".
Im actually really sorry about that. But perhaps hes thinking about it, hopefully. It just surprised me.
and NO he isnt a Freethinker. He cant accept the fact that if we start with what little faith we have and read the Bible, God will reveal more of Himself to us, personally, and we will know Him, which is something we cannot "prove". Not to mention Bible prophesy itself is plenty enough to prove the existence of God.

and the real truth of the matter is that some dont want to know there is a God because if there is, then we are responsible to Him.
So they want to pretend there isnt.
But the stupidity on their part is that no matter how much they pretend... God is still there and they are still responsible to Him.
Then one day they will have to pay the price.
Jesus is my Saviour, I shall not be moved.
Noah235 replies on 9/13/2008 1:37 pm: Hi Claudia. You probably guessed but it was another of the Pariah's posts that inspired me to write this one. I thought he might have come on here to make a comment but he hasn't so far. I agree completely that the reason people don't WANT to believe in God is that it means they are accountable to someone for their lives.

We get our English word " atheist " from the Greek word " ATHEOS ", but the English word has a different meaning, than the Greek word. The English word is applied to those who claim, they don't believe, in the existence of God. According to that definition; there is no such person. All mankind believes in the existence of God, but chooses to suppress that truth ( Rom. 1:18 ).
However, the Greek word means to be without God, the word is found in Eph. 2:12, and describes those who were without God, and without hope, before God graciously saved them. So, the Biblical meaning is more accurate in its description, of what the word " atheist " actually means. Free thinking or not.

Noah235 replies on 9/14/2008 1:35 am: I bow to your superior knowledge of Greek on that one Steve! And I guess since people choose to suppress the truth that must mean they are free thinkers in that sense at least. Thanks for your comment.

Good point, Peter! How can an atheist who believes his mind is material and the product of blind, random chance trust his own "thoughts" about "atheism"? LOL God bless, PrettyLady35
Noah235 replies on 9/14/2008 4:00 pm: Hi Karla. Yes, as I say I find it totally bizarre that atheists call themselves "free thinkers" and us brainwashed when the reverse is the truth. thanks for commenting.

No need to bow Pete.........It's not a superior knowledge of Greek ( as I've said before ). I just own several Greek and Hebrew dictionaries. Why, even my English dictionary, says the same thing. It's amazing the things you can find in a dictionary.

I once heard this.. The Atheist "Even God knows I don't believe in Him"
Many an atheist came to know Christ trying to dispprove His existence, how wonderful those testimonies are.
We can know so many things in our 'head', as did Paul before his damascus road experience..its only the Counsellor who reveals things to our heart, let us pray for revelation to those we know who are atheist trying to understand God by logic.
We are the blessed ones to know Him, Romans 5.5 ... let us use every opportunity to reveal the Christ in us to those yet to know the heart of the Father, by His Son's grace, revealed to their hearts.

Hi Julie. The one I heard was "the atheist's most embarrassing moment is when he feels profoundly thankful but can't think of anyone to thank"!
You're right that we need to show people that God exists because they can see the evidence of his work in our lives. That is how I first believed.
