WAITING ON THE LORD {Updated}

In the last couple of weeks I have been getting quite anxious about an aspect of my life. I don't want to go into any details but basically there is a time element involved. To put it bluntly, time is running out if this particular problem is to be solved without causing a major catastrophe. This morning I prayed to the Lord and just said to him: "Lord I don't know what to do here" and asked him to give me a clue. The Lord's infinite wisdom is MUCH greater than mine as he realised the first thing that was needed was for me to calm down.

So his first word to me was from Psalm 46v10:
"Be still and know that I am God".

He followed up with several scriptures along the lines of Luke 1v37:
"Nothing is impossible for God".

Finally a few scriptures on the subject of waiting, including Psalm 27v14:
"Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord".

Suitably reassured, I went into the town to do a few essential things and found myself, as often happens, in a direct learning situation with reference to "waiting":

Waiting part 1
Went to the barbers to get a haircut, and found myself waiting as he had one guy in the chair with one other ahead of me in the queue. I am naturally an impatient kind of guy but in fact the barber is quite quick and I wasn't waiting too long for my turn. When I was finally in the chair I realised I was in a "be still" situation as I wouldn't have wanted my ear cut by the razor! Although I could see my face in the mirror I had to trust him to cut round the back correctly as I couldn't see there.

What I learnt: Even though God is not limited like the barber who could only do one haircut at a time, he still often puts us into situations where we have to wait on his timing for resolution. In many of these situations we can do nothing but watch him sort it out, and although he lets us see SOME of the work he is doing we have to trust him with those things we cannot see.

Waiting part 2
Went to do some shopping and of course found myself in the queue for the checkout. Found myself in the usual dilemma as to which queue was moving faster but decided to stay where I was. I usually find if I change queues that the one I have just left always moves faster!

What I learnt: Faced with a number of options it is best not to 'switch horses' unless you are SURE you are moving to a better option.

Waiting part 3
When I got home there was a knock on the door almost straight away. The water board had been doing some work and had just restarted the supply. They wanted to take a sample of water from my tap to make sure the quality was now OK. Before I could make myself a cuppa I had to wait for the guy to sterilise the tap and take his sample. He seemed satisfied because he filled his water bottle from my tap and drank some in front of me!

What I learnt: Whatever God allows into our life is going to be beneficial and good for us. He himself will remove any harmful {in the spiritual sense} factors before it even gets through to us. The guy drinking the water himself reminded me that Jesus won't ask us to go through anything he is not prepared to go through, and has in fact gone through, himself.

THE IMPORTANT BIT
When I first posted this I forgot to mention that when I first logged onto my computer this morning after the water board guy had gone, I got some good news in an email. Part of my anxiety was due to a possible job situation that had been postponed indefinitely. The email I got today told me that they were going to sort the applications tomorrow {Wednesday 3/9} and let us know soon after that. So hope is restored on that front!
