You should have been there. We had a great time. I'm talking about the trek we took on the KVR trestles.

A bunch of us from our singles group got to know each other better, had some good food, good exercise. And just plain had fun.

Although, while I was walking, I felt something I simply dismissed....bad decision! I knew what it was coming from and thought it would go away.

You have probably guessed what it was....a blister! Not just any blister however. It was HUGE! It took my shoe size from a size 10 to size 12.

After hobbling into church on Saturday, I just couldn't help but spirtualize it, sorry. I began thinking about any other activity or posture that might produce a blister. Somehow I connected the cause of my blister, to praying. (Don't ask me how, because I have no idea, that is just how my brain (mal)functions!)

I could have walked 15 minutes, and not produced a blister. Even 30 minutes wouldn't have been long enough to cause this "thing." But we walked almost 3 hours!

I heard myself quietly wondering how long I would have to be on my knees in prayer before causing blisters on them. 10 minutes?? 30 minutes?? Obviously, the longer I currently spend on them, the longer it would take to cause a blister. Conversely, the less time I spend on my knees, the quicker I form a blister.

If the stats on the amount of time that Christians spend in prayer are accurate, 15 minutes would definitely be enough time to form a blister.

SCARY!!

Eph 2:10 We are his workmanship (poiema, or poem, or work of art) created in Christ Jesus.

God is an artist and you are His masterpiece!

The business manufactures build in braais and fireplaces and the main client base consisted of retailers and the building industry. Got into it by chance while doing a marketing strategy for them, I used to be a conference/events organiser and also handled campaigns. I have worked for myself for 20 years so any boss will have difficulty managing me lol, I suppose I will always be self employed.

The control/risk part was quite a biggy for me, in a way, I gave my shares to the other partners to minimize my risk, I did not expect to have much control and that way I minimized conflict, with the understanding that I am keeping my options open to return. I may stay in the USA if things work out and when I left South Africa it was with a mindset of changing direction. I took a decision two years ago to leave the corporate world and frankly, now I have no intention of returning, the personal price was just too high for me.

Wow, beauty AND brains ! He (the reason for your visit to the US) must feel very lucky.

Interesting, I too, stumbled into my first business. My Massage Therapist told me that all medical offices were being required by our government medical plan, to bill electronically. I put together a business plan and secured the contracts with number of medical offices, to do their receivables.

I then branched out and started 3 other businesses concurrently. So, again, I too had my own company for 20 years.

How do you "in a way" give away your shares, and "in a way" still remain a partner??? ......don't feel obligated to answer that, seriously. I just take a fascination in hearing people's stories.

Did you find as I did, that employees are your #1 problem in business?

The personal price you referred to is the reason I decided to follow the doctor's advice and take 3 years off. My world had become black and white. Now the color is coming back, and the flowers smell again.

Thanks for sharing a part of your story.
Bless you, Gary

I'm not quite sure how to describe what I did. In a nut shell, I had 2 businesses, both of which I couldn't sell, and simply had to walk away from them losing my total investment and equipment. The Dr. said I had to essentially choose between health or wealth.

What type items does you company manufacture? Are you able to maintain enough control now that you are in the U.S.?

We should all have blisters on our knees. I regret to say that I don't have any.

Faith is not believing that God can - It's knowing that He will!

Possibly once you get to know me, you will feel such a concern for all my flaws , the Lord might ask you to pray for me, thus giving you blisters, that will with time, turn into callouses, then they don' hurt soooooo much.

Do you have a sister named Shelley? I still can't get over how much you look like you could be sisters with my friend's wife....and she IS form the US as well.

I knew you were coming for a trip to the US to visit a guy, but I didn't know you were still here. It's good you are able to get away for such a long time. Did you take a leave of absence from work?

Hi, oh lovely, I have done a whole lotta hiking but I have the right hiking boots, that helps.

The most important of all Jewish prayers is a prayer called the Shema. Strangely enough, the Shema is a prayer that speaks to the Jewish people, and not to G-d. Its verses instruct the Israelites (the prayer is from the Torah even before the term "Jew" was used for the Jewish people) what they have to do. Here is a part of the Shema prayer:

Hear, O Israel, the Eternal is our G-d, the Eternal is One. Blessed be G-d's Name and glorious kingdom forever and ever. You shall love the Lord your G-d with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might. And these words, which I [G-d] teach you this day, shall be upon your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down and when you rise up. And you shall bind them as a sign upon your hand, and they shall be for a reminder before your eyes. And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and upon your gates.

In just this one paragraph of the Shema prayer, it is possible to understand why Jews designed the tefillin (phylacteries) to place as symbols on the head (above the eyes) and on the arm; and why most Jews place a mezuzah on the doorpost of their houses to remind them of G-d. So everytime they pass through their front door, they touch the mezuzah to remind them to pray and they have specific prayers written on a small piece of paper that is placed inside the mezuzah.

Prayer Closet
TALITH contains two Hebrew words; TAL meaning tent and ITH meaning little. Thus, you have LITTLE TENT. Each man had his own little tent. Six million Jews could not fit into the tent of meeting that was set up in the Old Testament. Therefore, what was given to them was their own private sanctuary where they could meet with God. Each man had one! His Prayer Shawl or Talith. They would pull it up over their head, forming a tent, where they would begin to chant and sing their Hebrew songs, and call upon God. It was intimate, private, and set apart from anyone else -- enabling them to totally focus upon God. This was their prayer closet! Although I am not Jewish, I have one and I can witness that there are blessings in my prayer closet.

About 10 years ago started looking at how the Jews practiced as the Lord taught them and we are serving the same Lord, the Lord of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Well, I have discovered various gems that blessed me immensely.

Hi Sonia, I see you moved!?!?

I love those verses you quoted in that part of the Shema prayer. I have often suggested to friends and family that are going through especially trying times to write verses on yellow stickies and post them throughout their homes, as reminders to speak the word.

My prayer closet isn't really, well, a closet, it is my car. I find it less distracting for me to go for what I call, a prayer drive. I think God is less concerned about HOW we do it, but rather THAT we do it.

Thank you, yours was a good reminder of our need to have a place where we can commune with god privately.

Stick with your feet Michael, unless of course you have a good pair of knee pads. But then you would still have trouble on the hills, going up and down. Plus you would have trouble keeping up with the rest of us.

Next time I think I will ride one of the bikes instead....butt then my but would get blisters.

What are KVR trestles??

in your life means Jesus is in your heart.

I_Am_1_Rib_Short replies on 10/21/2008 3:10 am:
It stands for Kettle Valley Railroad. The railway has long since been removed, but there are about a dozen trestles that have been restored to their original condition, and it is now a tourist destination to hike/bike the former track route. It makes for some beautiful Kodak moments.
