Do the modern portrayals of our men make anyone else angry?

I was in the store the other day, and noticed a mom getting a DVD for her young children. It was The Simpsons Movie. I instantly bristled inside. How inappropriate is that for children? It may be a cartoon, but even I am not old enough to watch it.

Why does it bother me? I have never even sat through one episode of the Simpsons. I didn’t need to. I saw enough. In one word—Homer.

This man/husband/father/breadwinner is portrayed as a stumbling, bumbling, stupid, selfish, uncaring oaf. Throw in the dumb mom and the incredibly disrespectful, foul-mouthed kid, and it’s a recipe for disaster. And it ain’t just the Simpsons either!

Has anyone else noticed? TV ads everywhere. Is there one advertisement anywhere that portrays our men as the wise, strong, hardworking, caring, loving, admirable people that they can be, and that I believe, deep down, want to be? I don’t think so.

Sitcoms? Nope. Mostly the men there are portrayed as dumb, clumsy, lazy, lascivious, thoughtless jerks.

Dramas? Same thing—plus the source of tremendous pain for the women who are the heroes these days.

Email jokes?? I’m sure I don’t have to even explain this one. We have all seen them. Lots of us laugh and forward them on. I’ve been guilty. But in reality, they are NOT funny. They are degrading to our men. OH, I know, I know, that phrase is usually spoken about something the PC people regard as “degrading to women”. But I know I’m right. These things are degrading to our men. And we should be ashamed!

God placed these precious men here on a mission to lead, shelter, provide for, and protect their families. I think the silent, underappreciated majority turn themselves inside out and upside down to accomplish that mission. Is this how we as individuals and as a society repay them? And you know what, I’ve never heard even one of them complain about it either. Shame, shame on us.

Gentlemen, I have at times been guilty. I apologize from the depths of my heart. I could never do what you do with so little appreciation. I respect and admire you. May God bless you as you go about quietly accomplishing the tasks set before you, even without the respect and gratitude you deserve from us. Thank you.

Sadly, I don't recall ever hearing this crucial two-word sentence taught in Bible study. I think it's one of the most important passages in Scripture. Amen?

Of course the NIV has to differ. Lol.

I agree with NJBeliever. This is an attack on the family unit. If the enemy can steal respect from the head of the home, the family falls apart. If the family falls apart, the nation follows. These type of shows make me sick in my spirit. And it used to grieve me to the core when I observed my brother and his wife allowing their children to watch all that garbage as they were growing up.

Amanda, great post. We need to support our men. God bless you for posting this!

It's all a part of the effort to undermine and destroy the family unit, which is Satan's agenda. This is why there are so many households where the children run the parents.

I also agree with Hidden Treasure about TV in general. It's very offensive and much of it is anti-Christian. And the Simpsons is a perfect example. Since the first season they have mocked Christianity, misrepresented it and have not stopped.
This is why I've never sat through an entire episode of this show. I only needed part of one to be completely revolted. So very many media representations of our beloved men are this way. And there sit the kids..... Without the Grace of God, you guys don't stand a chance. Thankfully, His Grace is abundant. Praying for you, too! God bless!!

In South Africa a conference When 67000 men praise God changed many lives. There are follow up workshops that is maintaining the momentum. It is about men taking up their rightfull place.

It is amazing how many families are being restored due to the man taking up his rightfull place.

The Lord's order is being restored.

The truth is the MOST shows on television are portraying anti-Biblical sentiments yet people sit themselves in front of the television daily, and watch that garbage.

Ps:101:3: I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.

I cannot think of ANYONE who was a role model and/or mentor in my growing years of a truly godly man. Or a man at all for that matter. Now my pastor is a great guy, but we grew up in the same generation with little example. I noticed quite a few ladies on this sight disparaging the lack of godly men. Where are they?? The truth is that I doubt VERY FEW if any of us were raised that way and now we find ourselves in our 40's and 50's trying to figure out what we are supposed to be with half a lifetime behind us trained the wrong way. This is the very serious result of a nation straying away from God.
    Kudos and Bravos Amanda!!
Hugs, Jeff,

Noting the tragic lack of mentors that our generation and the next has had to deal with, I have begun praying daily for God to teach His precious sons how to be the men he designed them to be. I believe with all my heart that this is the kind of godly man they want to become. I have also begun to pray for my future husband, that God would bless him, teach him, walk with him and fashion his heart in the way God would have it be. I've come to believe that this is my duty as a daughter of God. To give him the honor, prayer and respect he is due according to God's Word, even before I know him, so that he will be prepared by God to step into his God-ordained role within our home. I sure hope he's praying the same for me. And perhaps, within God's time, when we are brought together, we will both be mature enough in God's Will to accept our roles and bless each other as God intends. At least, I want to bring blessing upon my husband, should I be given such a priceless gift.

Cayotes are going nuts tonight. It's a bit creepy. I need to get some sleep anyway. God bless and talk to you soon.

The world, even the churches have tended to make sissies out of men over the last 60 years. This nation has gone down hill noticeably since 1953.

Where are the "Real" men of God?

Panzified and waring aprons, their manhood denied by the feminist movement in the church.

Where are the men of integrity that will stand upon the principles of God at all cost in the public square and at home with their families?

What are they afraid of losing?

What women have told them they would lose?

Is woman the head of man?

So why would a Godly man listen and obey what is wrong?

Yes dear, but this is what the Bible says, _____________, in a loving and gentle manner, firm, yet warmly.

Man is to direct the family as Christ leads the Church.

This is what is missing in too many places in this day and age.

A Godly leader in the home, the man of the house.

Committed to God first and then to his wife.

Raising his children and if need be his children's children up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

A Godly wife is paramount in the home, for she nurtures the next generation to follow in their father's foot steps.

This is God's plan.

Know?

Yes?

?

.

.
Continue to be faithful, deliverance is near, obedience must be seen, be an unconditional blessing as He continues to bless you.

This time is short, serve Him well, serving all.

Without exception.

I agree with 1God2

We need more examples of GODLY MEN.

There are Godly men out there. But we all see it... men who won't work. We all see more mothers and children in church than we see entire families. Rarely do we see fathers and their children without the mother.

So here's three cheers for the men who DO as GOD called them to DO...
